SWEET!! Congrats on the contracts! Sounds like you MADE yourself a nitch there - great job! Yeah I can understand not wanting to go OTR with one so young at home. Klingon was an O/O way back when - I was the wife at home w/toddler. Not easy for either of us. Thank goodness for my MIL!!

There was a guy on here, maybe he still is, that wanted to buy a monster sleeper truck and bring his wife and him on the road, full time. Home school in the truck, the whole nine yards. Can you imagine the chaos?

    Unbelievable!

Congrats you guys, on the new additions to your families.

I remember reading that thread!! I wonder what he eventually did... I can almost see both sides - but to have such a little one cooped up in a truck :( not good. His little one was elementry age though - not newborn. At least with a really little one - you put them in one place and the stay there (at least for a while). Mine would have always been asleep though - she always fell asleep as we drove. The sound and motion - LOL!

Yeah, but no other interaction with kids? Sitting in a truck all the time, little exercise? I can see a trip or two, but not full-timing it with little ones.

To each his own I suppose...

Oh I agree!! Not something I would do or want someone else to do - ESPECIALLY if they have other options!

Well Klingon now has 4 days and a wake up until I ship him off to Fontana... from what he says, he's doing well - except for reciting all the points of the PTI - but we are working on that. Plus that helps me too :) I'm getting the house set up (moving bedrooms) for my daughter and SIL to move in, and hoping that the time between when he leaves and I'm able to join him goes really, really quickly!!

Wow! You guys are almost there! I am stoked for you! If you have any last minute Central/Fontana questions let me know.

So as a team what truck do you guys think you might be interested in? Husband/wife teams at Central usually have a say so as to what they want to drive. Normally the reserve the bigger, new trucks for you guys. Our first truck was a brand new Volvo 670. I couldn't believe that we were treated that way! Getting a truck with the plastic still on the seats is ridiculously awesome!!!! Man, I'm getting all tickled just thinking about it! Central really has some sharp looking equipment. Makes you feel proud to drive for them when you are going down the road.

I have no clue - LOL! I just want one that runs :biggrin_25523:

I won't be able to start my schooling until the first part of February (3 weeks in Sac - then 5 weeks w/trainer) - so he will be running solo until I can join him... will they still take that into consideration when assigning a truck? That would be nice!

I'm getting excited too... a bit of short timers attitude going on - I just want to get this started!! I am lucky that he is going through the schooling first 1) its a refresher for him (with a few more things added in) and 2) He copied his study material, so I get a chance to go over it BEFORE I hit school!! :biggrin_255:

Book learning - I do ok - my nerves are for working that clutch, turns, and backing!! I do ok with small trailers (if I give it some thought) but 53' worth of trailer!! I assume it would be the same basic priciple - at least I HOPE so :biggrin_2556:

Actually LadyK the bigger the trailer, the easier it is to maneuver it. You just have to remember whatever you do to the steering wheel is going to take 7 seconds for results in the back. It is a little intimidating at first but you will pick it up in no time at all. My wife previous to driving semi's would drive horse trailers. She is actually very good at driving and backing. Actually at our orientation they took everyone to the range for their backing test and I was the first one to go. I took one pull-up. My wife was next and she was so nervous. She ended up doing it in one shot! Everyone crapped their pants! The bar was set high by a woman! She takes her time and goes very slow and this is the key to backing. If you start to make a mistake you can easily correct it before getting to far off track.

The Challenger and Lady K Thank this.
