    12/27-12/30

I loaded 42,000 Lbs of Transformer oil headed to Rumford Ma at 08:00 Monday 12/27. I was a bit nervous about this load since the northeast was being hit with blizzard conditions. We had also gotten 6-8 inches over the weekend in NC. It turned out that the most snow I saw on the roads was in NC before I got loaded.

I ran I-81 to Harrisburg Pa and shut down at the TA Monday evening. I will probably skip that TA in the future... lots of lot lizzards working the CB. Tuesday I headed to our terminal in Auburn Ma. Roads were plowed and for the most part dry. It was pretty windy though.

Wednesday I headed out about day break. I was only about 40 miles from the Rumford. It was mostly 2 lane narrow roads that followed a river bed with lots of small towns along the way. I enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunrises I have seen out here. Lots of red and purple that was reflecting off some snow covered mountains.

I got to Rumford and pulled into a paper mill truck staging area to call my contact at Delta Star. They are a company that installs electrical transformers. On these loads we often have to call them to find out where the substation they are building/repairing. I had actually called this same guy a few weeks ago. I got his voice mail so I called another number on the bills.

That lady told me that the load had been postponed to next week due to the blizzard. I called dispatch and after a while they decided to have me deliver the load to a Delta Star plant in Lynchburg Va. I headed south stopping close enough to make the delivery and get home Thursday night.

I am now off until Tuesday morning when I get to do the Rumford Ma load all over again. I am looking forward to it and its real nice to have a 4 day weekend at home to start the new year.

Eventually once I start compiling everything for taxes. I grossed around 58K for 2010 which is about 6K more than 2009. I haven't figured out how much more or less home time that involved.

Had a great 4 day weekend. Heading back out in the morning. I originally thought I was heading back up to Rumford Maine. They decided to have me load it in the morning and pull it up to our terminal in Paulsboro NJ. Wednesday I will swap loads with a guy from Maine and deliver his load to Fayetteville NC. Looks like a short week mileage wise depending on what they do with me once I get home. Dispatch did ask me if I wanted to go to California so I may be heading out west next week.

Few things add more to a thread than spelling or grammar corrections.

I drove for superior from 2000 til 2005 when they closed our terminal and must say all in all it is a great company and well respected in the industry, they are a first class company. Most of their tanks are straight bore tanks (they don't have a baffle or separate compartments) it pretty much depends on the location and if it's a specialized dedicated service for a customer.

I believe this thread has about run its course. I plan to continue blogging my experiences here but plan to start a new thread each year. 3 years is long enough for one titled From School to Superior Carriers.

Superior now requires 1 year of recent OTR experience officially. I did however talk to a driver who started right out of school at our Greer SC terminal about a year ago after completing truck driver training at Greenville Tech. The fact that our hazmat training school is located in Greer probably has something to do with it. Its worth a call to a terminal manager for the opportunity to skip mega training company wages if you can.
