"They" did me a favor,by taking me off the road.I was Under The Family Medical Leave Act,I had acccured 84 days of sick leave andi took all of them to bounce back from going into Diabetic shock(I didnt know i was diabetic),My short term Disability took care of my bills,and now im 60 lbs light(185) and a whole lot healthier.
There is a reason for these new regs on health,,YOUR Welfare,I was like so many others thinking"well DOT doc signed off" I dont need to worry,cause shoot if anything were really wrong he would tell me,BULL
DOT physicals are a JOKE,wait n see if you have to do a Return to work physical if you fail a simple DOT physical and they require you to be fully screened by a Cardiologist(Like I had to last year),then He tells you your ok to drive until we fix your Mitral valve(Like Ii had done) then in the process of that while on the prescription of Furosemide(to Reduce the size of your heart,and remove excess fluid) you find out the bad side "effect" is that it usually puts u in a "pre-diabetic state" and while you r on the road for 2 months trying to build up time off and money ofr said Mitral valve operation your Blood Suger skyrockets and after a week you passs out(in a shower thank god) and are rushed to hospital where your blood is 575 and peaked at 628 and you slip into a coma.

That was me,last year sept till Oct 31st ,,,I thought I had the friggin flu,,but hey Im on the load that gets me home,deal with it there,,NEVER MADE IT,and almost never made it past 1st night,My body was in DKA,my blood pressure never went above 70 over 25,and the worst thing,I never fell asleep thru it allI was a zombie,there but not there,My muscles developed "Neuropathy" a sensation of the damaged nerve endings that your muscles are being torn off off your bones

It took me 4 days to get home,then 3 months for my eyes to get "near normal",I still have 1 eye 1 full dDiaopler off from the other,I had to take 2 complete physicals to get back on the road,and tonight i am in atlanta and i just got into my new truck.I am counting the days until this odessy is over,as I am leaving trucking in 2 months,all my miles in that time run will pay for all the bills not Covered by Cigna($1125.00 out of over$10,000)

And Ironically this all was avoidable,Loose the weight,or dont drive its not about they are out to get you,its your life and the lives of others they want to protect,God Bless you

Diabetes is chronic, there is no cure and if you are using insulin, you can forget about passing a DOT exam and getting a full medical pass. You are lucky you got help before it was too late. Good luck on your next adventure.
