Oh yes, obesity causes a multitude of health problems, any number of them could be causing the excess gas.Taxing the fast food like they tax a pack of cigarettes would get the country back in the black in a short time.:biggrin_25526:

In the Land-0-Fruits & Nutz, (California), it's the smokers who pay the premiums for the children who's parents make at least $35,000 a year to qualify to receive the financial assistance , --- all thanks to Rob Reiner. Archie Bunker was right, Rob (fitting name) is a Meathead. Last I heard, the tobacco taxes collected are deposited into an account that has around four billion dollars, and still growing. It seems that very few are applying. Perhaps if the health insurance was offered to those making less than $35,000 a year more children would benefit, --- if providing health care for uninsured children was the real reason for the tax increase in the first place.

As it stands, the residents of California who use tobacco products are conflicted. One ear is hearing "y'all oughta quit smokin'", while the other ear hears, "y'all can't quit smokin' or the children will suffer". Obviously those folks in California who don't smoke are hard-hearted children haters who are only concerned with their health. So, when in California, give credit where credit is due, --- thank the smokers for providing health care for children of parents who could (and should) pay for it themselves.

    Punitive taxation?
    Hmmmmmmmmm.
I reckon freedom does come with a price.
Tax fast food enough and hope the heavyweights will only be able to afford to eat three or four times a week and they're bound to lose weight. Before they know it, they'll slim down to what the government deems proper.

But, is that fair for those folks who like to eat fast food but don't have a weight problem? Will it be just another case where those without a problem are expected to carry those who won't help themselves? I'm thinkin' all this makes sense to someone. I bet Rob Reiner knows the answers.

Without smokers, Medicare would implode. They can't take the strain of that many people living longer.

The Human body isn't designed to live a long period of time. Nor is it designed to be freaking huge or skeletal like. In due time the larger drivers will have to decided to lose it or move it. Not only Prime is going to fire drivers with overweight problem. Other companies will be doing the same thing once this CSA starts rolling.

I saw the title of this thread and had to chuckle. I don't think weight is a protected class (although I wouldn't put it past the clowns in congress to make it one). The last time I checked, it's a lot easier for a person to change his or her body composition than it is for a person to change his or her race or gender.

    Just sayin'...

    Chaz Bono? Michael Jackson?

Just sayin'! No offense, but most anything can be changed if you put your mind and money to it.

Yeah, cause we know there have never been overweight drivers in the last 75 years of trucking - its a brand new problem that needs to be addressed.
What drivers don't seem to realize, is that most company drivers are "at will" employees and can be fire for ANY reason. Prime doesn't even need to pretend it is for weight, or apnea, or (fill in latest health issue of the day here). HALF of ALL Americans are overweight or obese and trucking is in a driver's shortage - they are going to cut the potential driver pool in half? Good luck with that.

CSA has all ready been in effect for a year now. There is nothing in it about BMI.

If Prime wants to discriminate that is their right to do so. Being overweight isn't protected in the equal opportunity laws. But that has NOTHING to do with CSA, or any other proposed federal rule, because there are none.

My grandfather is 70 years old, has been climbing in and out of his old International cabover for 35 years. And he's been around 500 pounds most of his life. He retired just a year ago.

I agree. Society needs smokers and fat people. The idea that a fat person or a smoker who drops dead in his 50s is costing the government money is ridiculous.
