Hi All. I'm a student studying ops management and doing a project on freight matching services. I was already able to gather some info from other threads but I was wondering if someone could spare some time to share their experiences.

Generally speaking, do you spend a lot of time using freight matching sites? Do you think they're any good?

    yes, Loadlink
yes, they can be good for starting out or freelancing but one should eventually evolve out of it by developing relationships with shippers/brokers and just deal with them directly and get contracts / dedicated runs in place

based on your own research, what do you think ?

well, i'm starting to make a list with GetLoaded, Transcore, etc.. i'm trying to focus on the benefits of the internet (which includes this forum!!) to operational efficiency (yeah, boring... i know :p)

so you're saying posting boards are handling the excess while most of the freight is moved under fixed contracts? but how does one avoid driving empty between dedicated runs? do the prices of the dedicated runs explicitly cover the deadheading?

The prices of the dedicated runs may or may not cover the deadhead. They also may or may not say "exclusive use"... meaning if I unload at point B on Friday, and don't have to be back at point A until Tuesday, if I can find freight near point B, load it, and unload it in time to make it to point A on time, I make out. Exclusive use contracts usually pay enough to cover the deadhead.
