As far as I know, there is no way to add your own POI to the eithor the 500 or 700 units by going into the file structure. I belive that the database files on the unit are in a propriatary format to RM and unaccessable. I have also asked about adding this in the future some time as I have a few POI data sets I also wish to add. But I'm not sweating this as I have with other devices. Sort of surrendered to the enevitable I suppose.

I dunno, the thing is built on linux so it can't really be to proprietary. I know all the audio and image files are standard formats that can easily be edited. I don't know enough about linux to dink with it though.

Mark, great job on posting info on the TND 500 & 700, I have the T7E model and love it, unfortuitly mine has developed a problem with the power cord, it loses a connection due to being loose, I seem to remember reading a similar problem by another user, but cannot find it, or a solution in the threads. Short of returning the unit for a repair, (if this is even possible) and not having it in my truck would make life difficult, is there any fix's to my problem, I really hate to not have it to use as it has become a valuable tool in my truck, I sometimes hear other guy's on the CB ranting about "all I use is an atlas" I use both, but having the TND to keep track of mileage, ETA, and such is more important to me, anyway, any suggestions you or other users would be appreciated.

when you say power cord problem is the usb connection on the unit loose or is the end of the power cord just loose? if its just the end of the power cord you could try the squeeze it together trick (very lightly, don't smash it) and see if that helps. if its the usb connection inside the unit then it will have to be sent in for repair/exchange.

    Mark Kling Thanks this.

Does it take about an hour to update the first time? I thought I had it updated but that went really quick, just the dock software maybe? Trying to update again and this one is taking much longer.

Not that anyone cares, but I tried the 465-T after the TND-500 and it was no better.
Both have most of the same issues tho the TND has more features I liked. Kinda miss it sometimes. I'm back to a cheap "car" unit and a Rand atlas.

IF the rand guys could get the TND to re-calculate faster & navigate X-country better I'd buy another.

Question: How do you get the atlas page from the TND700?
I mean the page number and grid in the atlas.

My speaker is breaking up on the tnd700 in 3 months of owning :(, I think gps units will be like cb radio backups many drivers carry, we may need to keep two gps for when one breaks down.
