I have always heard the reason that they are illegal is that if the steering wheel spins back....like when you hit a pothole of something...that it can and will break your wrist or arm. I don't know....just what I've heard. I've never liked them on a vehicle other than a riding mower.

never had a problem "palming" the wheel when backing or turning unless i was low on PS fluid.
i got a Co. truck once with one on it, when i removed it the wheel covering was screwed up from it :biggrin_25510:

So are radar detectors. Doesn't stop people from buying them all day long.

People think those green books are to hold your extra logs down

Would you do me a favor? Would you look at the citation and post what the code section is for this?

Thats what I was wondering too BDon. I am curious to exactly what the written description of the violation may say also.

I bought one of those spinners but haven't put it on yet. I want to have it be 'quick release' so I would only put it on quickly before backing up on private property and such. Thinking about going to the hardware store and getting longer bolts and wing nuts, one would stay together but loose, then put the other bolt/nut real quick and hand tighten them both in just a few seconds and be good to go until time to leave, then quickly take it off again.

I hear on the CB some other little known violations like this are:

    • Operating a dirty commercial vehicle violation
    • Bed not made up in Sleeper violation
    • Paperwork, clutter, and dust on the dash violation
    • Bungie cords hooked to steps and/or catwalk violation
    • Rusty chains/binders violation

They might be handy for backing. Dont know about forward. On a road truck I wouldnt see the need for one though. You can take it off at the border and drop it off here, I will see if it fits on my boat :biggrin_255:
