I contacted the Union Hall, and asked about my eligibility to retire. They said everything looks good. They will send me my papers. Once I retire, I am not allowed to work in the Trucking industry any more.:biggrin_2553: I believe If I wanted to work in this industry, part - time, I will have to be over 65.

If you were to Retire tomorrow, would you miss this industry?

Darlin, I've been out of the seat for 10 years, and I still miss it!:biggrin_2552::biggrin_2552: And I won't be getting back in the seat either.

Im burnt out from trucking completely. I just need a real Long break. I'm not turning my papers in quiet yet. I had to call them and get everything straightened out, then they O.Kd it.

Now, I just had a quick talk with my wife, and She said "O.K. when ever your ready, but I'm not staying around you all day, every day". :biggrin_2559:

I parked my truck April 24th, 2008 and I miss it a lot. BUT, I'm done with it, I'm 65 and really settled in to retirement at this point. Not sure I could do the electronic log thing and the diesel cops hassling me.

Hey buddy, I see your Teamsters logo, I'm a part of Local 705, Chicago.

I just had a good talk with one of my favorite customers, these guys are all in there late 50`s and 60`s , every one of them are retired, and this is there part time job, and some, full time job, to help pay there Insurance, and add a little more to there income. One guy was in construction, for 25 years ,and said he will never have anything to do with construction ever again. He would rather hire someone to do the work. LOL

First of all, congratulations! You have worked hard to get where you are today. What will you do? Are you frisky and agile, ready for new adventures? No, don’t tell me you and your ol' lady have matching rocking chairs picked out already!

Yes. I would miss it. I'm still a rookie, like a dog riding in the car with the head out the window. When I made my first solo run February 25, 2005, I wept with joy. I was born to truck but didn't learn that til my late 40's. Local work doesn't suit me. I love OTR. As long as I can.

I cant say I would not miss it but am getting tired at this point. I think I've had about enough and am projecting retirement in 2-3 years. Its all I've ever done, but don't think I will miss it. I'm level headed enough to realize I've had my time in the industry and it's getting real close to the time to move aside. That don't mean I can't buy a motorhome and aggravate the hell out of you guy's that are still out there when I do retire...

    Lilbit and Wargames Thank this.

    hell frickin' NOOOOOOOOOOOO

i wouldn't even miss the customers, screw them too.

    rocking chairs...??

would you believe me if i told you I HAVE a rocking chair, and HAVE HAD IT since i was (about) 30....???? i just have to go and buy a new cushion set for it though...(it was my grand dad's)

7 days a week, i am up at 4:00 AM.....and my current job is a "9 to 5" type of job, but i can't wait to retire and turn in my CDL for a "regular" driver's license and be done with it, even the teaching part of the industry (my current 9 to 5 job)...the ENTIRE industry can go and "F" itself for all i care.

there will ALWAYS BE wannabe's, rookies, foreigners that will get the products to the stores, and they will NOT get paid any more than the current pays now, so let them suffer for "wanting to be" truckers....so there will never be an end to the cycle, which worries me not when i retire.
