This story just broke, and I don't have a link yet, but apparently there was an Auto Show going on at Selmer Tenn, and a car doing a burnout for show went out of control and into the crowd. Initial reports are at least 4 dead and 15 hospitalized.

Okay, found a link to the story.

Oh, dude, that is sad. That is not far from where I live. What is it with all these accidents at shows lately? Remember the Blue Angels accident not long ago and there was some other one as well not long ago (some flying group). ####, that must've been horrible to see.

Many years ago, (1978) I went out one night to watch the Blue Angels do a practice show at Miramar airfield near San Diego. They had a scheduled show for the weekend, and i thought i would watch the practice instead of fighting the traffic on Saturday. One of the planes flew along and basically completed 4 points of an 8 point roll. Result was he flew upside down into the ground at about 400 mph.

I've seen accidents happen in aircraft before, and since, but there's always something strange about realizing how quickly a life can be snuffed out.

The tragedy about this one in Tenn is that it probably didn't have to happen, but the burnout went on too long and too close to people. I've never understooid the fascination with burnouts anyhow, but some folks like to watch them.

They said on fox it was in a parade and was doing a burnout, knocked a pole down and then crashed into the crowd, must have had the throttle stick or clutch linkage broke, could have had 100 to 1500 horsepower, you can't stop it if a malfunction happens, crazy to even try it,the wheels could break or tires come off around people. what a no brainer idea that was.
