Kinda a barbell week. Ran to KC MO for delivery Tuesday AM, then returned to Cadiz, KY and dropped the backhaul that night and then picked up in Evansville, IN the next day for delivery Thursday morning in Chicago. Stopped by Vincennes for a minor repair to the trailer. Took a broker load back from Chicago with a Friday AM delivery in Indy and then ran the empty trailer to Greencastle IN and bobtailed to Oglesby, IL. The trailer I picked up in Oglesby had been sitting since August and the newest Annual inspection sticker was from Feb 08 (not normal, they try to get trailers through the shops at least every 6 months). Went to a little bitty truck shop and got a sticker. Headed up to South Beloit, IL and dropped and hooked a load going to Princeton, Ky early Monday Am. I am pre assigned from there to Black Mountain, NC. Apparently they are going to have bunch of freight coming from SC next week so they are trying to get a lot of drivers "in the neighborhood".

About 1998 miles for the week.

Stayed out for 2 weeks to get some miles. Put about 6k on the odometer so I suppose I succeeded.

Well, my Bestway experience is over. My old employer has called me back from layoff so I turned the truck in Thursday night and handed in my fuel card Friday afternoon (I did give not quite two weeks notice).

I was glad to walk away from the truck. A lot of that is the OTR lifestyle. A little of that is Bestway.

    The good:
Pretty much everyone was nice. I was never put down or chewed out. It was hard to get through to my FM sometimes but he always did right by me if asked for something.

The Maintenance folks seemed to give a **** which is a rare commodity. They run older equipment but they try very hard to keep it up. If it needs fixed they want you to get it fixed now rather than nursing it back home. You will do a lot of services on the road (ie get a Road King/UltraOne card).

In general once I had proved I could and wanted to run they kept miles coming.

They are extremely laid back. Basically you do your thing and they leave you alone. Never heard a word about idle and OOR.

I was home pretty much every weekend. Maybe half a dozen times I was able to sneak through the house during the week.

    The bad:
The rate per mile is low (they acknowledge in orientation that it needs to go up and they are working on it).

They are extremely laid back. It takes a while for dispatch to make up their mind about what they want you to do. Generally if you are not preassigned the night before and you empty out early in the morning you will be sitting for a couple hours.

If loads are preplanned with regard to HOS I never could see it. They will take you off of anything you say you can't do. I did and I never had any repercussions. As long as the paper is right they really don't care though (they have a service that checks your creative writing skills). It's not a starter company, they consider you a big boy and it's on you to make your own decisions.

Overall, they're good folks if you like trucking "old school"

well i will tell you this the trucks arent the greatest. there is alot going on up at the main terminal. alot of changes they bought 25 swift trucks last fall kinda a mistake cuz buying trucks off a big company swift isnt gonna give up they're good trucks. but they got 25 brand new trucks coming that word of mouth. they are updating and modernizing as funds allow them with no choice becuz of CSA2010 that they are trying to comply with. i have been here a year and a month. let me know if you got a question.

Nothing bad to say about Bestway, but I wasnt really to impressed with their turn around time to pickup a new load; didnt seem to get as many miles as they boasted, and their safety bonus is circumstantial. It seems to me, they try to save money in fuel at the expense of driver miles. Only more seasoned drivers there get more miles. Nice company, but not as promising as it leads u to believe. I wasnt that impressed. :biggrin_2559:

Well im done at Bestway Express. The company is all circumstance on the bonus. They make things sound good and anyway they can screw you to help them thats their game. Trucks arent great the main shop has mechanics that are shade tree they fix half and dont check the rest of the truck cause they dont want more work or cant keep up cause things that could be prevented werent. They are going to auto trucks set at 62-65mph and peoplenet. The bonus they want you to use your time to do online courses to lower their insureance if you dont have a computer find one or you lose your bonus. Your insureance health isnt very good very expensive for family plan. Dont let the company people in the office fool you i was there 2.5years. i had enough.
