Why do American trucks still use drum brakes?

i have seen many mixer trucks even with parabolic suspension and esp

 

EBS may be configurated for any truck chassis configuration

 

I dought i'd even build up enough curage to start in 15 mins.....

first generation of disk brakes by Knorr/bendix was notised with heavy calipers that are good for highways but they wear pins on rought roads, and next generation is twice lighter. the other problem of calipers is ajusting mechanism wear.
and if you overheat disk brakes they may crack, especially if you drive truck with hot disks in deep puddle

 

That makes ZERO sense, please explain why disc brake would fry with drum brakes on the trailer. Disc brakes can takes lots of heat compared to drums. Although more brake force would probably be applied to the tractor with discs, the drums would still be working fine as well.

 

NEVER USE TRUCK WITH DISK BRAKES WITH DRUM BRAKE TRAILER.

The problem is that Disk brakes, especially with EBS are very fast. Drum brake trailer needs up to 1.5 second delay (if trailer brake system is OK) to apply service brake fully, trucktor with disk brakes needs 0.1-0.2 sec only, so trailer will push trucktor and you understand danger...

So get new trailer with EBS and disk brakes, and it improves truck braking!

 

Why not, is no problem at all. We got a few old Open trailers with drum brakes and no ebs. All trucks are of course with Disk brakes. Works just fine, it's not as fast as with ebs trailer but it works just fine.

 

about LAA company trucks... we tried to use drum brake trailers with EBS trucks and if they are used if frequent stop and go regime fifth wheel start clancking soon and in case of panic braking trailer pushes trucktor hard with hazard of jack knifing. So we decided not to use old trailers with EBS equipped trucks.

I tried to convert old trailers to EBS and I was surprozed how fastser all system works. yeah, disk brakes are better but drum brakes with EBS are really better then convinient brake system. The only thing you should do - locate EBS unit in rear end of trailer to make air lines as short as possible

 

You can get a Peterbilt with disc on all three axels.
Why can't a disc tractor pull a drum brake trailer. I do it all the time with my dodge pick-up ( 4 wheel disc) pulling a sixteen ft trailer with electric drums.
