Kids probably would start to think as the article mentioned that anyone with out the "special plate" was safe to be around AND, parents need to teach their children how to behave, who not to go with etc......my dad always said "they dont go around with a M tatooed on their forehead" as he refered to murders....and they dont have special marks on their forehead for drunk drivers, child molesters, rapist, arsonist, embezelers etc....

We need to teach our children the do's and dont's how to keep themselves safe, how to react to situations NOT TO DEPEND on someone else to use a system correctly to protect/warn them of dangers.

Yes these people are the lowest of the low and need to be kept out of society to begin with a license plate wont protect anyone AND if anyone should confront them in any manner they (the molester) will probably file a law suit and cause all sorts of hassels.......

I don't know about this. This might prompt vigilante justice, or create a situation were this person can't live a productive life after prison. To me molestation is the worst crime there is, but we have to be careful that we don't motivate a crime, or motivate this person to do something worse out of retalliation for being persecuted.

I believe neighbors should be told, I believe there should be protection laws so these guys can't be near schools or parks. I believe in long jail sentences, and even life sentences for molestors. But if you let a person out of prison, you shouldn't create a situation where a person can't go to the store without the fear of someone retiliating against him. You're going to spawn something else that could be far worse. Like a child serial molester/murderer. Or even mass murderer like what happen with the Amish kids a few months ago. Or even violence from just normal people.

Here's a situation I remember that happened in Evansville IN about 10 years ago.

A child molester, is a child molester. I don't symapthize with what he did at all.

This guy was released from prision, he served his time that was given to him by the court and he came home to live with his mom and dad. For some reason one of the local TV stations decided to make this a big investigative report, and they put their hard nosed investigative reporter on the story. They did all the things you see investigative reporters do, followed him to the store, followed him to work, followed him everywhere. The guy couldn't get any peace at all. It sparked a crusade of residents against this guy, not just from the block he lived on, but from the entire city. The news did this for a week, every night. Finnally the guy hung himslef in the garage. Some might say that was what he deserved. I can see your point. But this wasn't the right way to do it. I guess what bothered me, is seeing how this played out and the final consequence. It's like watching a death sentence being carried out.

if your going to give a person a life sentence, then put them in prison where they belong. Don't make them a problem for the community to handle. Don't allow the community to set themselves up for more violence and crime. That is not the way of ourcountry. I see more harm coming from this then good.

I do see one good thing from this. The molester may decide not to own a car because of this. That keeps him immobile, which is a good thing. If that's the motivation then make a law that prevents child molestors, or any person convicted of a sexual preditor crime from having a drivers license. That way they can't legally drive.

Well, I guess people remember those kids there were kidnapped and killed from sex offenderes that have "served" their time and were released back into society. Do you think they would drive only that car if they do at all. It's like the idea of having people convicted of drunk driving having red license plates. It won't work.

I agree with whispers, putting a license plate on a car isn't going to stop 'em. If they live with someone else, they can take their car, if they live in a community of close houses, they can walk to get victims. Our daughters school sends out letters of sex offenders that have moved here (at least the ones who do register) - I'm also alerted via e-mail of new offenders in the county we live in. We have 3 kids, and trust me, we'll do what ever we have to do to protect them.

That sounds like a very real possibility.

Parents are the frontline in protecting kids. I have 4 kids, and I'm on the sex offender website every month to look for updates. Just paying attention can help a lot.

4 kids - God Bless you! Your right, it's up to the parents to protect them, to many "parents" are to quick to blame everyone around them when things happen.

If it were up to me, I'd use implants in convicted sex offenders so that they can be monitored by law enforcement for a certain period of time, but I'm against informing the general public of their whereabouts.

Most victims of sexual violence (both children and adults) are not assaulted by some random stranger, but by people they or their families know: relatives, friends, babysitters, people who have authority over them (teachers, supervisors, childcare workers).

I'm not saying that people shouldn't teach their children to be weary of strangers. However, I think it is just as important to teach children which parts of their bodies it is inappropriate for other people to touch - and to tell their parents if anybody touches them inappropriately. I wouldn't be surprised if most cases of child molestation went unreported simply because the kids are too embarrassed or ashamed to talk to their parents.
