Wondering how much of a difference a 1/4 watt makes. I;m suppose to replace R53 with a 470k ohm 1/4 watt resistor and all radio shack has in the 470k ohm is the 1/2 watt. Will it hurt to use this?

would it cause a great deal of harm using a 470k ohm 1/2 watt resistor in place of a 470k ohm 1/4 watt resistor?

Is there more than one location to attatch the coax shield to dc ground besides the power connector? As in a place on the board? Not talking chassis ground here.

it will be fine. 470k ohm is 470k ohm. the only difference is 1/2 watt via 1/4 watt and the 1/2 watt is a little larger then 1/4 watt.

    deerslayer1143 Thanks this.

It'd be easier to answer (at least for me) if you could explain what you're trying to accomplish. I hope the idea is *not* to source the radio's DC ground through the coax shield. Can you please describe the goal better, and is it for the Cobra you have listed in your sig file?

You can always use a higher power rated resistor than what's called for, as long as the resistance is the same, and if it'll physically fit, and is not wirewound if it's an RF load.
