company sweating me about my idle time

Are you kidding. how is your nice cool office in the summer and your warm office in the winter. What about your house. how cold/ warm is your drink. did you have a good dinner, was your shower hot ( every night ). how good was you wife/ girl friend. do not talk about comparing your office life to what we have to deal with on the road. we give up alot so the company and you can have what you have. we make your pay check. what makes you thing we should not have the same things you want when at work. you are no better then we are. you could not handle what we have to.

you used to be able to do that.Some years ago i drove for
jb hunt,they had a big stink over there about that. They caught alot of drivers unhooking q-comms while on break
to lower idle time.Really does not work in the end cause
mpg's will remain low. That's how jb caught everybody
fired a couple and every one else suspected of doing it had to pay back bonus paid out for low idle time.I got a
couple trucks with the q-comm unplugged while i was there.Probably much easier to catch drivers today,also if you got fired it will go on dac.Just speaking on experience on this idle lowering idea.

 

Didn't say I could, or would. Just wanted to know if you could handle being in the office. Everyone is a bit different, I know a lot of drivers that would go crazy in the office.

 

Well, I have news for you. I run my truck when I am sleeping, whether the company likes it or not. I dont play that game...

It is a fact that a driver could die in the truck a the office personal would care less. They will just put another body behind the wheel. I want to know. is that how you want your kid or your self treated? I bet not. you would have a cow. I`ve done the office thing for years. office personal get treated much better. buy only 200 trucks, some land, build an office building to include shop and all the things need to run the company. Hire all the office people. then just sit back in that office and see if any money comes in. OH waite no money guess what you forgot the most important part of the company. You know the part you should take care of the most. It`s THE DRIVERS!!!!!! With out them you won`t make anything. It seems all you clowns forgot that. Take care of the drivers and they will take care of you. With out drivers the company will not grow you will not be able to buy more trucks. You will not be that 1000, 2000 truck mega company.

 

I drove for a long time. I CHOSE to drive. I'm qualified to do other things, and now, I'm doing the job I was doing before for 7 years. That said... driving is a choice. Who you work for is a choice. You make choices based on what you are qualified to do and what suits you, or what's left over after you've exhausted everything else.

To bash someone sitting in a office, because YOU chose to drive a truck, and have to deal with hot weather is plain stupid. You could also mention that the mayor has an air conditoned office, as does a car salesman. The salesman, though, has to spend time outside in the weather while showing cars - if someone doesn't want to hold an umbrella over a customer while showing a car, they shouldn't be a car salesman, or should sell cars somewhere where it doesn't rain.

I don't think we'll EVER see the day when companies start drafting truck drivers into mandatory service, like my brothers were drafted during Vietnam, forced to serve or face prison (for defying the draft), and had to do foot patrols through hot, muggy swamps and rice paddies.

Until you're drafted, the trucking industry is an all-volunteer force, just like the military is now. When I was in, guys whined and complained all the time - I told then that they volunteered, no one put a gun to their head, and when their enlistment was done, they could get out.

Same for whiny drivers... if you don't like the conditions that a company imposes on you, get your own truck, and run it however you want. That's your CHOICE.

 

You guys crack me up. The policy is what it is wherever you are. If the policy is so bad move on. I'm not making you stay anywhere. You want idle the truck no matter what anyone cares, that's cool just don't expect a job for long. Do what you want, but realize there are consequences to your choices. Ask any of my former drivers how I treated them, you'll be surprised.

 

It works out just fine for me. Some have played the "unobtainable" bonus game and tried to hang that over my head, then I just quit and go somewhere else. After 16 years of this business, I dont put up with that crap...
