I been working without it for quite a while and can't figure out if I'm covered by OHIP or not? Looking at the Ontario Health website I seem to be covered so why would I need extra coverage? They say I need to purchase additional ins. and in the next paragraph say I'm already covered?
Anyone from Ontario have experience getting injured or ill outside of Ontario? Guess I should just ask my employer but I don't know if they know and don't really trust them for a honest answer.

You're covered for the same amount of dollars that they would pay for services in Ontario. Get ready to pay a hell of a lot more than that in the US.

Yes ,but even extra coverage will not always cover everything in the US.

I had an incident in Texas many years ago where I needed a prescription, and when I filed the claim with the insurance company they refused to pay because they said the prescription could have been purchased in Ontario. Well Duh...if I'd have been in Ontario I would have done that.

Needless to say I no longer use that company.

i had to hit an er in the us a few years ago---the bill was around 35oo --i had sk insurance --and sk figured there portion to pay was $25.00--thank god i had global ins--they bargained the bill down to $2800 with the hospital--and it was paid--of course then the hospital came after me for the remainder after --after agreeing for a 2800 payout---they are still waiting--and i think they will wait a lot longer

ya ok I definitely need this then.
I'been driving for like 5 years without it and no employer has said #### to me, maybe they just ###-u-me or don't care.

What kind of cost am I looking at, one ins. co. wants 57 dollars for a year another 90 dollars, does that sound boot right for a year? Emergency medical coverage.

Check with Blue Cross. You can do an online quote, or speak to someone.

I did a quick quote for a 45-year-old person from Ontario.

If you're crossing the border continuously, something like this is probably best, but you'll want to talk to the insurer just to be sure.

Lots of companies have cut benefits, or have pared them substantially. I'm surprised many trucking company owners even know how to spell benefits.
