I have only had my door knocked on at night once or twice in the last 10 years....In the daytime however, The losers, dopers, bums and such will walk up, knock and then hit me with the usual BS story about trying to get their family home and being out of gas or they're a "trucker" that lost their job and just needs a couple of bucks to get home.

I just run'em off and watch them go from truck to truck tryin' to get money.

Of course the reason these peices of trash keep coming back is because there are fools out there that fall for the story and give them money!

Not all trucks are equipped with door handles you can run straps through. Look inside the Prostar. Yet, I don't feel threatened in truck stops, nor am I bothered by lot lizards.

Panhandlers usually bug me when I'm outside my truck, or when the see me in my front seat. They are, by far, more of a nuisance than hookers and much more aggressive about it. In Tulsa at the J, I was walking out the diesel side of the building when I was surrounded by three men asking for money...right by the corner of the building in full view of the fuel desk. Ya think it might be a little intimidating for a little chickie to be surrounded by three beggars? Truckers were walking past, not paying any attention whatsoever. Thanks for the help, guys.

I don't rely on anyone except myself out here. Listen to the radio and read these forums. "I'd do this. I'm always helpful. I carry this. I'd have done that." But when it comes right down to it, they're a lot of gas and nothing else. You're on your own. Nobody sticks up for anybody any more, if they ever did.

Last time that happened to me was when I was waiting at the exit in Atlanta to go into the Petro. Fellow jumped up on my truck and started pleading for monetary help, as his wife and baby girl were in his broken-down truck on the on-ramp ahead of us.
I excused myself and made a radio call, asking if anyone saw a truck on the side... nope, no truck. As soon as he heard this, he started screaming about how I was a racist and was holding him back.
He also wouldn't step down, so I started driving when the light turned green. He got the point by the time I reached 10 mph or so... and had to hit the ground running.

"Never" is such a strong word.

Each individual must make their own decision, based on their own judgment and experience. Otherwise, we may as well sit back and welcome the nanny dictatorship we've been cultivating for the last 150 years.

If at all possible, of course. Unfortunately, in many areas you have to be ready to shut down for the day by 4pm or so. Or... just run at night, but I've never been fond of the wee hours.
