There have been many times that semis are behind me on a two-lane road. (one lane eastbound, one lane westbound)
To avoid slowing them down, especially since an upgrade begins just beyond the intersection, I signal at leasten seconds in advance before beginning to slow, then move left into the opposing traffic lane if no traffic is approaching.
This allows the trucks to proceed without ruining their momentum and causing them brake wear and more fuel use and pollution.
If there is a vehicle athe intersection which may be turning into my "deceleration" lane, I can't do this. Sometimes I have signaled and pulled to the right shoulder and lethe trucks pass before pulling back onto the roadway and turning left behind them.
Turning left from a two-lane road, I'll move intopposing lane.

I think this is a good idea--to get into the left lane so they don't lose their speed! I really didn't know this was a problem until I started reading some of the posts here. I think this is one of the most annoying things us four-wheelers do. Now I always signal and move into the other lane if the way is clear when a truck is behind me going up a hill. Otherwise, I speed up.

There's the "legal" way to do it and a "practical" way. It's kinda like fast moving traffic thru a business district, everyone heading home, then one driver needs to turn into a driveway, slowing the whole traffic flow down and everyone is cussing, right ?

Thank you, but never put yourself in danger for us - we'll manage, but the effort is appreciated!

u know..............I used to do this.................but, what who is at fault if something ere to happen?
I drive semi, and car, so I know how it is in both sides. If ur in a car and want to turn left, it is nice if u get over. But if u were in an accident, u would probably be found at fault 'cuz were in the wrong lane.
So, I appreciate the thoughtfulness, but u also can just signal in advance..............we will back off, so u know we notice ur intent to turn left.NDBADLANDS Thanks this. -
I have gone into the opposing lane only when nother vehicles, bicycles were present or approaching.
So a mishap could not be possible.
Sometimes there were oncoming vehicles which prevented me from doing this. A few times there were many oncoming vehicles, so I signaled right and pulled onto the right shoulder to lethe 5 semis pass. Then I pulled back onto the road and signaled left and waited to turn left.I_HATE_MINIVANS Thanks this. -
it's annoyig because we really don't know what your doing, if your drunk or what and I gneraly will still slow down to stay behind you. Just give plenty of notice with your turn signal and let us worry about the rest.
bulldozerbert, NDBADLANDS and Roadmedic Thank this. -
I pull over into the left lane sometimes when I go up to my parents house because of the same reason. Downhill on one side and just past the intersection an uphill. I don't do it all the time, mostly at night when I can see if there are headlights coming out onto the road, and have never had a cop around when I do it. I guess i would probably get a ticket for driving left of center if they want to get technical about it.
I guess I would just blame it on my dad as he does it and I just picked up on his bad habits. Sounds good to me.bulldozerbert Thanks this. -
I generally feel it an unsafe thing to do......if the truck is that close on ur tail, signal well in advance.............

Just drive like you're supposed to. Doing things to try and make it easier on us just makes it harder since you're doing something out of the norm.
