The last few guys I've had call looking for a job, the second or third question out of their mouths was "what kind of trucks ya got?".Injun Thanks this. -
i really dont understand that idea of thinking--drive cheap just for a large car--the nice truck wont make you anymore money--wont make the owner anymore money-- a little more awkward to get in the tight places
i would rather just have a respectable--well maintained truck--just give me an old t-600 and i am happyjohnday Thanks this. -
It's not about money - it's about coolness! Do you realize how much more ##### you get driving an uber-cool, long nose Pete or KW? I was in one with leopard print trim inside the cab and sleeper birth; the trucks nickname you ask - "panty dropper".

an idiot is still an idiot wether he is driving a bagged out ih or in low chromed out pete
now granted i am not sure if i would like driving something that fell out of the convoy for mexico----but as long as it runs good and looks decent --then i am happy -
Most of the time the OLD worn out LARGE CAR is associated with low end employers, they buy them dirt cheap mostly 4 or 5th owner after original O/O , and pay low wages and bare bone repairs.

Some people just have more ego than brains.
I could have gotten a W900 when I came back over and, in fact, the leasing dept had the last one reserved for me. I told them to let someone have it who would appreciate it more than I would. Many of the new lease folks were screaming for W900s. Seemed they all wanted one. I didn't. I wanted a copper colored Prostar. None were available, none were on deck and none were on order. They had no idea where I was going to get one. But I was very specific in my request. When I showed up the following week, the truck in my signature was sitting on the yard.
This truck has been nothing but a solid work horse the entire time I've had it. Sure, there were a couple of wrinkles that needed to be ironed out. Once taken care of, and with the exception of one little hitch caused by an inexperienced lube jockey, no problems requiring expert attention. I've only done maintenance stuff with this. Fuel economy is acceptable and (in my opinion) there are far worse looking trucks out there. -
This is funny, I bought a large car...now mind you since i got it , it had been neglected badly...the apperence over all wasnt bad, but since iv goten it iv' replaced one bad u-joint fixed a host of wireing issues for lights. this past mth i have replaced the a/c brackets, new belts one new windshield (turkybuzzard speacial) who is now road kill, lol fixed a exshaust leak, an fuel leak, allso new charged air cooler lines , along with all new water an heater hoses......$ new batterys, a full service....but the negelected items are almost finshed an i do this in my spae time as i am running full bore....the last night mare was the other day, this truck came with 2 brand new bridgestone steer tires....On my way to ohio i must have ran something small enought to just pearce the tire to shoe the cord....needless to say, I now own two brand new goodyear steers at the cost of $800..... but the trick to haveing a nice truck is you have to take care of it......or it will take care of your wallet!!!!!
Injun Thanks this. -
Dino, I think the subject was people wanting a largecar only for the looks of it. That wasn't the case with you. You wanted a work horse that could handle everything you threw at it, but you didn't want to give an eyeball and your spleen up to get it. In addition, you were being guided by an icon to follow a certain tradition. You seem to be doing well with your big ol' Pete and she seems to be doing well for you. You are an Owner-Operator and have the latitude to choose whatever truck you want for whatever reasons you deem worthy.
That's not the case with company drivers. When someone comes to you asking for a job, you would expect them to drive whatever you have. You have a Pete. I like my Cornbinder. It would be like me telling you (as a potential employer) that your equipment is substandard, but I'm just so awesome that you should get me what I want....and in exchange, I will work for less money. You would look at me like I have three eyes.....and probably tell me to get lost.
How are you doing, anyhow?
