headlights on or off at truck stops?

I'm not that blind. If you can't see or judge where the front of your truck is or a few feet away at night without the need to possibly blind others then maybe you need a company with better vision insurance.

My truck moves, my lights are on. Otherwise, I'm creating a hazard for me, other drivers and pedestrians walking in the parking lot. 24 years and 2 million mile safe driving awards from the ATA says I'm doing something right. And yea Hoss.....there has been times when I said "Whew, I'm glad I had my lights on" or "I'm glad he had his lights on". Ain't none of us perfect. You'll get there somewhere along the line. I'm sure in another 16 years you'll be able to instill the same wisdom as I.

If another driver is backing in in front of me and I'm just waiting, the headlights go off. When I'm backing in, the headlights go off. Other times it's a judgment call.

I close my cab curtains almost immediately after backing into a slot. I don't have a problem with headlights...don't see 'em.

My biggest problem is that I need headlights on the back of the truck!:biggrin_25525:

Well Cheif, I'll stick with what my father taught me.

His 46 years and over 8 million safe miles trumps any ATA award.

I assure you that if I ever have an incident that could've been avoided by either party having their headlights on, I'll let you know.

    Don't hold your breath though.

Well for me, if the truck is moving at night or bad weather, forward-backwards-sideways, in my yard-shipper/receiver-TS-strip joint, I have the lights on. This as said, will comply with most states laws (particularly if an accident occurs). Once parked, cut them off.

Kudos to your ol' man. Hats off to him. Good luck. Shall I bow my head in respect and awe now because your ol' man had a 46 year lucky streak?

This is not a stupid topic. Once parked, I could give a rat's behind what you do with your headlights. However. When I'm trying to back in, look over at my mirror to see what my behind is doing and all I get is a faceful of your lights? I might give a little more than a rat's behind.

Like anything, it depends on the situation, and the location.Common sense and good judgement are the key factors to this.As far as people backing etc. I even dim my lights for people when Im in my personal vehicle.
