Unfortunately we've had this situation for years in europe, since they allowed east europe into the EU,we've come down to their level, the majority of export freight from the UK,is done by east european run/driven wagons, doing it on backload basis, this has decimated the British firms running to europe, you can't compete as a first world country against countries/companies paying 2nd/3rd world wages, its been allowed to happen over here because it suits the government/bosses,there's always a 'pole' ready to jump into your job over here so that keeps the workforce scared!A government only exists to look after the interests of its citizens, not the 'big' bosses,we need government but one that works for 'us',you can't continue to allow the whole world to come and take jobs/work/money out of the country and expect to survive?

Actually if you go to the Mexican truckers forum and read posts by Mexico Trucker, you guys are wrong. Rates in Mexico are 2.5 better than US rates. Mexican drivers get 23 cents a mile plus per diem, pluscompany contribution to IMSS(SS) which entitles them to free health care. They are worried about what our mega carriers like Werner will do to their rates. We have companies that will erode their pay standards .Now before you attack me read some of the posts in our Mexican Forum, especially post #23 by Mexico Trucker in the thread "What is the difference between Mexican and Canadian Trucking Companies".

Yeah, I like how the OP's conclusions depend entirely upon the assumption that Mexican drivers and carriers will of course cheat and break the law (and become illegal immigrants). Cabotage laws have to be massively broken or changed in order for what you predict to actually occur. The Canadians haven't done this in however many decades, and the Mexicans won't either.

    Seconding whosedog's point, too.

I'm sorry, but most of this hand-wringing is the result of the prejudice that borders on (and often is) bigotry.
I know you're all going to burn me in effigy for saying this, but you're doomsaying more because you're scared of spanish in America and tacos becoming the national entree...not because it actually makes business sense.

You want to be mad at somebody? Be mad a Werner and the other biggies. Our American capitalism is what makes these deals go.

That's what it is Saeinga, racism .The free health care is worth at least 10-20G per year, and before you poke fun of Mexican health care read up on US residents who go to Mexico for health care because they can't get treated in the US due to the astronomical costs.

If it's worth 10-20k, wouldn't it be then not free at all if taxed or contributed for to that amount?

If it is free, not taxed, not contributed to, or financed in any way, is it not then technically worth nothing? :p

Let's have a quick look at a couple nations with 'free' health care: Canadia and France. Canadia is taxed out the wazoo, and the french are french, so neither one has it all that great. But at least they're not limies, right? *winkwinkwink*

But really, who they are or whether they get health care is irrelevant. I seriously doubt that Mexican entry into the country, making legal deadheads after drops in order to pick up, is going to affect our wages negatively. If that becomes a standard practice, I am fairly sure that DOT, DHS, and INS will come up with a way to ensure compliance. That being said, I personally feel more comfy having Canucks bopping around the states, and likewise feel less afeared when going into Canadia than Mexico - I've never been mugged by a moose.

Quck disclaimer: Misspellings in above post are intentional and all wiseacre remarks are all tongue in cheek - I mean no ill towards any nationality, just teasing a bit.

i second the idea--if anybody is going to screw things up its going to be the companies like werner celedon --swift and such--dont be pissed at some poor mexican driver--he is just doing his job ,like everybody else--be mad at the major companies who dont give a crap about the country--cause if they get their way--you wont have a job---the us will get nailed being monkey in the middle--a mexican/owned by a us company can provide a service that the typical us driver cant--direct service from mexico to both the us or canada and then back
