got a 2010 388 with a 600 cummins...about 150 hours into a new service, i start to lose oil pressure to the point where the low oil pressure light comes on and i have to limp it back to the yard. If i put on a new filter at this point the pressure is fine again anyone heard of this problem thanks in advance

You might have a defective oil pump, cummins runs low oil presure, but not that low where the warning light comes on. When the oil pump gets weak and your filter gets more restrictive/dirty it doesnt take long to drop.

check the oil pressure with a gauge... the oil pressure switch may be bad.

Thats a fairly common problem with the ISX. The oil filters are plugging with soot. What oil and filter are you using? Fleetguard came out with a updated filter # LF 9070 thats suppose to help. Another option would be to install a bypass filter to help remove some of the soot from the oil.

If your oil pressure is getting so low that you get a tell tale on, shut it off and call the service truck or tow truck and do something. If the engine blows and you're under warranty, they will see you ran the truck and drove it instead of pulling over and deny your warranty.

Fleetguard had a filter for the ISX that was loosing an o-ring and plugging up the internal oil lines... do a search here and you will find the thread...bad news.

how long are you going between oil changes? if the engine was built before nov 2010 then it has the old piston skirt design that in the dpf engines allows too much soot to buildup on the bottom of the head and when it breaks loose it clogs the oil filter. engines built after nov 2010 they have a diff design piston skirt that has alleviated this issue. also if you are running over 20,000 miles on pm and using donaldson oil filters you will have oil press issues about 15,000 miles in. just my experience as a mechanic.
