Yes, beef liver is filled with so many essentrial nutrients...that rather than list, I just left a link...

My energies and attention have been real divided lately...so I haven't had as much time to chime in...but will pick up pace again later...

Off the top of my head, a few interesting notes about alcohol...

    1. Studies show that those who consume no alcohol a day, have a higher mortality rate than those who consume 1-2 drinks per day...but those who consume more than 1-2 drinks per day, have a higher 'total mortality rate, than none drinkers and those who drink 1-2 per day...

    In other words...

1-2 drinkers a day, live longer on average, than those who don't drink at all, and or those who drink more than 2 drinks per day.

But the article I read, (which I will give link to in a minute) doesn't say whether those 'drinks' are beer, or wine or hard liquir...

they should of focused more on alcohol concentrion...like some cans have 5.9%...

So the study should of said 5.9 x 2 = 11.8% of alcohol is good, but more is bad...

Or if refering to wine or Vodka, then lay it out the same way...

But by the article just saying 'drinks'...that's meaningless...cause people 'drink' different beverages...2 drinks of Rum has a different alcohol content than 2 drinks of beer...

And how are these drinks measured? In a glass? in the bottle or the 'can'; you buy them in?
I expect more thoroughness from an acclaimed doctor...maybe I'll tell him how incomplete his study is...

A study is no good without specifics, details...can't leave little things like that out, and expect it to help people...

Here's the link...maybe you can interpit it better than I can, or did...

Oh, my bag...it's in there...I just read it...here's the equivalents...

12 once bottle of beer = 4 ounce glass of wine = 1 1/2 shot of 80 proof spirits (one half ounce), all contain roughly the same amount of liquar...

So two drinks of either of those, would be the maximum you could drink for good health, anymore, and the benifits of drinking decline, and take a statistical toll on your health...

    Interesting study...here's the link...

(but I also must add...alcohol is actually a 'poison' to the body...and kills cells...and if drank heavily, can lead to a whole host of health and social issues, which I will discuss in later posts)

Sorry ghost, but 2 beers at 5.9% do not equal 11.8% alcoholic content. They equal 2 beers at 5.9%.

Drinking definitely has health benefits; especially since ethyl alcohol is an anticoagulant(blood thinner) - much like the 81mg, low dose aspirin routine; they both reduce risks of heart attack, clots, strokes, etc...

I honestly think there is a bit of controversy behind the recommended "how many glasses of alcohol a day" guidelines. If you think about it, they probably (legally), only recommend an amount which would keep a persons BAC under .04, as they would never recommend a dose that would make most intoxicated on a daily basis.

    Please explain....

How come you get more drunk, the more beers you drink if there's not an accumalitve affect?

    Eager to learn...

Ok, let me blow the cobb webs off this page that I haven't posted in in months, since may...

    The benefits of not drinking...

    1. Increased energy
    2. More stable moods
    3. Better utilization of your time
    4. Less embarracing moments...(except for me...cause I'm just weird regardless, but in a fun loving way)

    5. Stronger heart
    6. Stronger joints
    7. Healthier skin
    8. Increased confidence...

When you drink a lot, it's like your confidence goes way down...
Sure when your under the influence, your confidence sky rockets...but only for a while...then it comes back down...
when you don't drink, it's like your over all confidence gets better...cause you don't always feel our doing something wrong.

    9. You save money...
You may save up to $120.00 a month...

    30 days in a month, $4.00 on booze...4x30= 120...and that's a low estimate...

    120x12= 1440 a year or more, you will save...probably more like 1700...

Anyways...just thought I'd share that...and heck, I may even start working out again...
I did some push ups tonight and yesterday...
    Another update soon...

    U4EA Thanks this.

    No problem....

I had forgotten about page one...I was intending to give the benefits and functions of the main vitamins, but got side tracked...

Maybe I'll resume it, or cover another area of health, that other randomn internet readers seem to be interested in...

One thing I like about being home...is that after i eat a goofy meal like I did about 40 minutes ago...

Chili with scrambled eggs, all mixed together...

Is that I can then go out, and burn off all the accumilated caleries by taking a brisk bike ride....

Not only that, but just the normal, daily, walking around I do while home, exceeds many days of riding in truck, parking, and just sitting or sleeping...

Don't get me wrong...you can be at home, and still become a couch potato easily...it's easy to do...

So whether at home, or over the road...it's an easy trap to fall into..expecially as winter approaches...I mean who want's to go excercise when it's blizzard like conditions outside...

Yes, when it's cold out, it's even harder to motivate yourself to excercise...expecially while out there in a truck...
During winter, many a driver starts to gain weight...

But in all fairness, being thin isn't the only or always an indicator of good health...you can have a bad heart, and still be thin....

Ultimatly you've really just gotta watch what you put into your body...

Well since this is a trucking forum...I think I'll write about my over all health in relation to driving vs not driving...

But I'll start by saying earlier today, on Int 95, a log truck lost control and created a 3 truck, 1 car pile up, which resulted in the loss of life of a truck driver hauling explosive gases...

    Truck blew up...

Driver of truck now deceased...a 60 something year old driver...

And is one reason I'm glad I'm not out there at the moment...do to that level of stress...one mistake and your gone...of course that could be said of many industrial jobs...

It's much quiter now...where I dwell...no noise...and noise = stress...I get much better sleep...someone thought I was 26 yesterday...maybe they were just being nice...or maybe cause it was dark...I don't know...but I do know good rest keeps the stress wrinkles away...

I generally eat much better...and for much less...
But you can still fall into a junk food habit even while at home...
I mean there's never a shortage of cars at the fast food resturants drive thru windows around here...

Soft drinks have pretty much all been eliminated from my diet...
Water consumption has gone up, but so has beer consumption too...

    Over all moral is better...

Don't get me wrong...life still happens regardless, things still go wrong...
But when they do, your not seperated from being able to resolve issues...
You don't have to beg, to go home, wonder when you'll get there...you don't have someone else planning out your whole life for you...

Go here, go there...not ever asking you what you would prefer...there's just something undignifying about that after a while...

Being tossed around like a ping pong ball...

And I don't feel as lonely...
Even though it's not like I have gobs of friends, but while at home, I just don't ever feel as lonely as I did while driving out there in the middle of no where....

I mean it's very beautiful for a while...or can be...but after a while, it can become torturious on the soul...cause your alone...you have no one to share the moments with...and it's as if your not alive...
Then you pull up somewhere, after driving alone all day...and not so much as a 'hello'...'how are you'...just strangers...and most aren't in a mood to talk...

I can't go through that type of isolation no more...maybe if I had a new truck, and someone to ride with me all the time...possibly...but even then, who's to say they won't get tired of it, and leave you...then it would feel twice as lonely...

I just don't get off on being alone like that anymore...and the people who do, well just look at them out there...don't exactly seem like the social types...more like the good, the bad, the ugly types...and lot's of hispanics, if your in the SE...although hispanic drivers tend to be younger...but it doesn't help any if they don't speak your language...

There's just something about seeing the same people over and over again, daily, that's soothing to the soul, comforting...(accept for that one monster person)...

Infact...i wish I could take that one monster person and dump them off in the above desert all by themselves...I'd hall them out in a box truck...cause I could never allow them to sit next to me...no way...

I'd drive out on some dusty road, open up the cargo door, and like Arnold Schw I'd say 'Get out'....

Anyhow...my thoughts have drifted away from what I originally started writing about so I'll wrap it up...

Over all though...I feel better, and less stressed, by not being out there...not putting up with 24 hours of constant engine noise and vibration...

    Be careful with pickels...

I read tonight where the daily recomended sodium intake a day for an adult is around 1500 mgs of sodium per day...

Your average dill pickle contains around 1,181 mgs of sodium...and a spear about 1/4 that...

    So eating one dill pickle...

Practically puts you at your sodium limit for the day....

And high sodium contributes to high blood pressure...

Why am I suddenly concerned about dill pickles?

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Probably because I purchased a jar of them...and didn't realize how bad they could be for you...didn't realize how much sodium they had in them...

So, if your eating dill pickles through out the day... @ 1 1/2 servings you've exceeded the daily recomended amount of 1500mg...now add other spices to that you might take in, chips, ect ect...and now your asking for trouble...

No more pickles for me...or if I do snack on one, it will be in a very small serving...

Here's some more info on Dill pickels...
