As long as you are in good health and can pass the DOT physical, there is no reason you should not find work. Older drivers are in more demand than the young drivers. Older workers tend to have a better work ethic. I think if you look at all truck accidents, most will involve younger drivers.
Reflexes can slow with age, but it is an individual decision. It is a shame that we force older people into retirement just because of their age. Not everyone wants to retire. These days, many cannot afford to retire. I would like to see forced retirement abolished. People are more productive today at an advanced age than in previous times.

Yes, older people can still be productive, but how productive ? Me personally, (age 65) I feel fine and have all my wits about me. But, physically, I could not run a marathon and I do feel the ol' body aches daily. Many old timers are as sharp as a tack mentally, but physically, they're not. Take note next time you're at McD's, for instance. They have old timers there working sometimes. Compare their movements with the 20 year olds. Quite a difference. Same with W-Mart cashiers. The 50 plus year olds work much slower. I say the OP should go for it but expect the un-expected.

Hey stop picking on us old guys(yourself included) slow and steady wins the race. What we lack in speed we excell in grace and wisdom,or something ,yeah that's it!We treat our bodies with more respect because we have been injured so many times and know we aren't going to live forever.

There are a lot of older drivers who are in better shape than many younger people. Older people usually have a better work ethic. In this industry, older drivers are more sought after for a number of reasons. It is one of the few professions where you are not forced to retire. As long as you have a good mvr and can pass the physical, you should be able to work.
