What do you pull, besides driving what do you do, how much do you make?

    I think it would be great to get a post going that list everbodys stats. Think this is perfect spot. Be nice to get as many drivers as possible to post there stats in short form. This would be a great tool for new drivers, and a cool thing for experienced drivers to check out as well. I set it up so you everyone can copy and past below then just fill in blanks as I did even further below.

    Please dont post any comments questions ets.. in this post besides stats, PM a person or post question in other part of forum. Thanks in advance to everyone who honestly post here:

    Detention, layover, per diem, paid vacation, drop pay ($35 for every additional pickup or drop not counting first pickup or drop)

    How many miles per week average: 3200

    Home time: about 4 days every 3-5 weeks (varied mostly my choice)

    What kind of work do you do besides drive: Mostly just drive, count boxes, ocassionally hand stack/unstack, chaining (unless roads are actually closed which dispatch will verify the trucks will roll). thats about it.

    What do you enjoy most about your job: I enjoy seeing and doing everything out there I would never have had a chance to otherwise. I trip plan run like heck solid 11hr drive shifts so I can spend day and half in vegas even though it may jack my logs for rest of week. Been to Mexico bunch of times on free time, New York, Long Island, Florida ets... I have been everywhere in lower 48 during every season. I have seen and actually done so much I would never have been able to do otherwise if I hadnt become a trucker. It takes a lot of work, but with a little experience you figure out how to cut corners an plan ahead so you do have free time to go do stuff, doing stuff is always much better than seeing stuff. When you start out trucking you see everything but do nothing beside driver, later on you get to do stuff, which is super cool.

    What do you hate most: What I hate is the heat, trucks are an oven in the sun. Not being home all the time. An occasional stressfull day once in a blue moon dew to whatever reasons

    Short bit of advise to newer drivers: Stay away from all mega-carriers like Swift, CRengland, Prime, Covenant ets.. they treat you bad pay you little and are soley responsible for cheap freight which is killing this industry. Even if you do go have to go threw mega-carrier keep searching for something better, there is a lot of great paying trucking jobs out there, they are just hard to find and everybody like myself keep it a secret when they do find one, unless they are recruiting for them.

    Treat each semi truck you see on the road as if you mother was driving it: dont cut off other semi trucks, dont bright light other trucks, dont talk sheet on CB to other trucks.

    If someone on the internet, or truckstop where ever tries to tell you how great the company they work for is, and tries to get you to work for that company, run like hell! They are making money by recruiting drivers for a company that is so bad, they cant fill the seats in there trucks by advertizing alone, so they resort to paying there drivers for every body they bring into the company. Any company that bad you do not want to work for.

    What do you hate most: Some of these containers are junk, and I'm still driving someone else's truck.

    I think your gonna hit a nerve with a few on here. Company driver's will reply and brag, Union driver's will laugh, Owner/Operator's will tell you it's personal and it's business. Most of us that have survive thru this recession had common sense and business savey. And it wasn't easy. If you can't figure out your cost factor, your in the wrong business.

    Let me file this as 'other'. I drive someone else's truck, but I have responsibilities which go beyond that of a typical company driver. I get to select my own loads, browse various load boards, et. al.

    Pull:
    Flatbeds, stepdecks. There may be a chance I'd be called on to pull a manual detach RGN.
    Average take home when you were trucking if retired or other. After taxes, (not counting garnishments and not gross wage aether) I average about: I don't feel like doing the math right now. My last paycheck was for $1300. Every week isn't like that, and that's without taxes being taken out (I'm a 1099 contractor).

    Other pay besides driving (chaining detention ets): It's gross to the truck, which is taken from the line haul, fuel surcharge, detention pay, tarp pay, stop pay, etc.

    Do you recruit, or recommend people or other drivers to work for the same company you do, with or without compensation: I'm trying to find a driver for our other truck. All I'd really expect for it is an 'attaboy'

    What kind of truck do you drive: 2007 Volvo VNL780, which was purchased new in 2010. 13 speed, VE D16, 3.55s

    How many miles per week average: Over 3000. I don't feel like crunching numbers to get an exact figure right now.

    Home time: Out three weeks, home five days. If I get shorted on home time one week, it'll be added to my next home time.

    What kind of work do you do besides drive: I have an FFL, and want to set up shop to get back into gunsmithing when I have a chance. Much easier to do when I was a sitework driver.

    What do you enjoy most about your job: I like driving.

    What do you hate most: OTR is a love/hate thing for me. I loved being a sitework driver.

    Short bit of advise to newer drivers: Don't expect every trucker to be your buddy, cover your ### always, have the sense to realize when you're getting screwed over, don't expect "the company to take care of it for you", don't take Channel 19 nonsense to heart, be mindful that there are more scammers out there than you can shake a stick at, don't let anyone push you into doing anything unsafe and/or illegal.

    How many miles per week average: 1000 (again local, paid by the hour)

    What kind of work do you do besides drive: i buy and sell guns

    What do you enjoy most about your job: clocking out

    What do you hate most: the union crybabies

    Short bit of advise to newer drivers: dont text and drive, dont try to get on the interstate in 6th gear and if youre governed below 65 stay the hell out of my way

    Anyhow,

    Un-named company

    Pull: diesel

    Logs: local driver but use paper logs

    Truck: 94 Pete bobtail tanker

    Home time: home nightly but with the occasional over nighter

    Other work: I forget

    What do you enjoy about your work:
    I get paid to sleep and watch movies all day ( posting this with an iPad waiting to set up my tanker)..that and hanging out with some cool guys.

    What I hate most about my job: the trucks are out dated and needs to much work...time for some new trucks.

    Short bit of advice: the oilfield isn't for everyone and has it's up and downs. You should view it like the show Man vs Wild. Always take more water than you think you need and food for 24hrs. And stash cash away for rainy days when the oilfield isn't doing so well.

    What kind of truck do you drive: '09 Star Car 4900SA, KW T8. Both have 500 Cat C15, 18 speed, 4:11 rears

    How many miles per week average: 1300

    Home time:evry other day, every night, every weekend

    What kind of work do you do besides drive: sometimes load myself with endloader

    What do you enjoy most about your job: I'm driving for who I want, what I want, and where I want, [northern lower Michigan, da yooper, and Ontario]

    What do you hate most: Getting home at 0200, and no electricity.

    Short bit of advise to newer drivers: Don't be afraid to help out another driver, regardless of colour of truck or name. Turn that CB on, put that bloody cell phone down unless you're parked, and gain some common sense even if you have to pay for it. And PAY ATTENTION!!!!

    Pull:53 foot trash trailers, 45 live bottom, and 30 foot Florida spec dump. Honestly I don't haul a lot of trash anymore, mainly live bottom and dump.

    Average take home when you were trucking if retired or other. After taxes, (not counting garnishments and not gross wage aether) I average about:600-850 weekly, right at 44,000 last year.

    Other pay besides driving (chaining detention ets):Weekly bonus at $50 dollars a week, any down time including break down at $8.00 hourly, and quarterly bonuses.

    Do you recruit, or recommend people or other drivers to work for the same company you do, with or without compensation:I recommend drivers to work here, but they have to understand that everyones perception of a company is going to different, I for one enjoy my job where others may not.

    Home time:Every night, off weekends

    What kind of work do you do besides drive:General maintenance on the truck, not much though I try to enjoy my down time as much as I can.

    What do you enjoy most about your job:Doing things at my own pace, I'm basically on dedicated runs and all the company expects out of me is to operate safely and get things done in a timely manner.

    What do you hate most:Downtime at the wood/paper mills, it can be out of control at times.

    Short bit of advise to newer drivers:Do your best to quickly find a company that fits your needs and stick with them, don't adopt the mentality of the "grass is always greener". I don't expect anyone to hold themselves back from better opportunities, but understand this is trucking and a lot of companies will tell you what you want to hear, if you find a job that keeps you happy 75% of the time stick with it.
