Good info I will be able to use 4 sure.....turns out the fault code I was trying to find due to eng warn light being on I found via odometer after pressing button 4 times fault 1 showed up and then pressed and held button and the code PID 131A showed up which according to a cummins code site is a sensor for accelerator pedal which is either shorted or getting to much voltage. Hopefully an easy fix along with changing the coolant and oil then I should be ok for awhile as I just passed BIT inspection the other day....the eng light didn't come on when chp guy was up in truck luckily. Good luck !

I have 3 of these units and all three required complete in frame rebuilds (water in the oil) between 220 - 250k miles.
The dealership said, "that's all these trucks are supposed to last anymore". Well, after owning my transportation company for over 20 years I can honoestly tell you... " I will NEVER buy an international truck again...! "
I am still suffering from the $30k I had to pay out these very difficult past 3 years.

... one more thing .... Count me in for a class action suit.. cuz this is just plain stupid. I have a 1996 International 4700 that still runs great (same engine) 783,000 miles.

What was the failure? How old were the trucks?

    I also paid for an in-frame overhaul. 2001 4300 DT466. Fail o-ring.

We had a truck towed in last week, Cummins ISX, rod out the side of the block. Another customer had the BXS C-15 with the broken Jake studs and ruined the head and camshaft. We have seen numerous Mercedes that won't start after a service and someone from FRTLNR has to put a special pump on it to reprime the fuel system. It doesn't matter what make it is, they all suck!

Again, not to be rude, but your truck is 10 - 11 years old! How long do you guys expect this stuff to last? Come on, be realistic!

Did you ever get any resolution to this problem? I had this very same problem on my 05' and I only had 151,000 When I bought my truck it had 90k on it. I bought an extended warranty for another 200k I believe it was from NTP. which is basically junk! All extended warranties are junk! DO not buy one because they only cover the major parts that never go out by themselves unless something else causes them to go bad. Then the warranty folks won't cover it because something else caused them to go bad! they are all scams! I think I paid 4200$ for this warranty and it was basically junk! I thought it was odd though that before I could even buy the warranty they had to do an oil test of some kind. Later on I figured out why they did that. they were checking to see if there was any signs of coolant in the oil. Which if there was, they weren't going to cover it. Of course, I had no idea about this O-ring problem until after I had mine fail.

I deliver mail. My route is 81 miles a day. I hardly ever get above 60mph. the heat gauge never got above 204 degrees. In fact, the only time that it had ever got to 204 was the very evening that my O-rings failed. I was within 5miles of being done with my route when I noticed the heat gauge got to around 203-204. no biggie, it cooled down once I got in town to unload the mail. after I killed the motor and restarted it I noticed it seemed like it had a little miss to it. but, no warning lights came on. I parked the truck over night till the next morning. it wasn't over heating. no warning signs. The next morning I went to start the motor and the coolant light pops on followed by red engine light and beeper. I killed it checked the coolant it was gone from my overflow. I just had it serviced like the day before so I thought dang, they must have not put any in it??? wtf! I poured more in to top it off. started the motor, it fired up ran and then within a few mins of driving it the coolant light came on followed by the red engine light. At this time I saw where the fluidhad been leaking out of the overflow vent. And of course I pulled the dipstick to see the dreaded milky white oil. ughhh... of course I thought no worries, good thing I bought that extended warranty from NTP. i'm good. of course I find out later that it's junk. they don't cover this. I find out that the o rings had failed , overheated even though the temps never got above 204 and then allowed all my coolant to suck into and burning up I think it was 2 cylinders. I'm then told I needed the Works inframe kit to fix it. Good times!

I just couldn't believe it.. A truck with only 151k miles on it needing an inframe rebuild??? And then the supposed ''great warranty'' I bought that the salesman told me I just ''had to buy'' wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Talk about being pissed off. I just can't understand how that isn't a manufacturing defect??? The prob with the rusting steel tanks eating up injectors I can understand. Because that is the new fuel. But this problem with the 3 O-rings being stacked can only be a manf. defect. My int. dealer told me that I didn't need to do the heads so that saved me 2500$ but the inframe job ran me a nice 6700$ not to mention the tow bill, and the week rental of another truck. I got this truck when it was 21/2yrs old. You can't tell me that this isn't anything other than a manf. defect. Because it is quite obvious that it is!

Oh and again, I stress to anyone thinking of purchasing an extended warranty. Save your money. Put the money that you would have paid for that warranty in a 'repair fund'' Do NOT let the salesman talk you into buying the warranty. The only warranty that is good is the original warranty. Any others are just junk!

Oh and if anyone has gotten any kind of resolution to this O ring problem. Please let me know!

International Trucks SUCK, for several reasons:
#1. Air Horn. A one inch square button, placed in the middle of several other buttons on the steering column. Not only is it impossible to find in the event of an emergency, but embarrassing (for myself, and dissappointing to the kids) when trying to show off for the kids who request a honk (thank you so much poindexter for screwing up a great thing).
#2. Mirrors. For some reason or another the douche bags in corporatesaw fit to limit the power windows so as to prevent my turning them out enough to avoid blinding brights coming up from behind at night. Thanks screwballs.
#3. Power Windows. Every time I hit the button to roll the window down, it sees fit to CONTINUE to roll down, forcing me to take a second look, rolling it back up to where I wanted it, rather thanstop when I let off of the button. Ridiculous . They better hope I dont get into an accident because of that stupid "feature".
#4. Radio. No, lets not light up the radio at night. Lets just assume that by not lighting the radio, the victom (er, I mean the trucker) will just give up, rather than spend precious contration FEELING AROUND for the right button (while some douche bag blinds me from behind!!!)
SCREW INTERNATIONAL! I will NEVER waste my money on a piece of junk like that!
My advise? Get a Kenworth!!John. Future Owner Operator.
