Welcome, as long as your company keeps up with the trucks, my hubby says he's fine. He drives for Smith, yep black trucks in the summer, but he hasn't had any complaints - air works well! Also, the one thing we try and tell anyone who is starting out in trucking - don't make any decisions until you have driven for 4 seasons! My brother-in-law had some big ideas, he had only driven for the summer and felt the money was good enough to buy a house, and move, we told him stick it out for 4 seasons, needless to say when winter rolled around he wasn't happy (i loved telling HIM - told you so). Good Luck and snoop around in here, some really good advise and guys/gals here!

Well living and working in Michigan winters can be a challenge at times but we manage.
There have been times that the ROADS were so bad that I wanted them to close our terminal and not send anyone out, but as you know they rarely do that.
I have to say that our truckers do manage to get to their destinations rather well even if they take extra time to get there.

THE road crews who clean the roads always clean the highways first up here and salt, which helps the big rigs keep moving.
Side roads and streets up here are always last, which upsets my UPS friends but HEY....Can't please everyone!:biggrin_25525:

The climate in the truck isn't really bad. considering you have heater & AC. I have woke up to the truck freezing cold. But thats because hubby didn't want to idle.
I have slept in a storm, rode in a Strom wasn't bad. Now if it gets real crazy like tornado's and the like I'm sure most are gonna go for some type of cover.
There are times when you have to Know when to pull off the road and shut down. In severe weather.(roads are slick) or really high winds, tornado.
If your really uncomfortable its best to pull over for a while. Don't let dispatchers push you if the road conditions aren't suitable.

Great information. I just never knew how insulated they can be from the sounds and rocking and of course the driving so all this insight is helpful. Thanks!

Unless you are in the Texas panhandle and the wind gust is 85mph, LOL. :)

You will adapt to most noises though, even thunderstorms. The one thing I can't adapt to though is the sound of trucks flying by on the interstate. This is why you won't find me sleeping on a ramp, or rarely in a rest area that is set up close to the interstate. Anything else though, doesn't bother me at all.

It gets as cold in the truck as it is outside, that's why you see so many trucks idling away when its wintertime. And when it gets really hot, it can get way hot in the truck, again why you see so many idling trucks in the summer. That's why I love fall so much, it is nice and cool and if you can find a nice spot (under a streetlight on a get-on ramp, for example) you can shut the truck down, crack the windows (and bunk vents) and sleep like a baby.
Driving in adverse conditions is not that much different in a truck than a car, except the truck will handle differently and you need to stay on top of it. And if it gets real hairy, pull off and park in a safe spot till conditions are better.

I love when it rains, its very peaceful. As for driving in weather, about the only thing that slows me down in weather is common sense and winter weather.
