I have a felony from 1996 for theft 2nd and some misdeamors one of them being a possession of controlled substance from 1997 and I'm finding it hard to get a job is it going to continue to be this way or will companies look at how old they are and give me a shot?

Some may but it will be hard to find them. The ones that will may not be the best out there, but if you are willing to put up with some crap for a few years to prove yourself you may be able to do it. I am assuming that you have nothing since then and have a good work history. The main problem is not only the felony but also that the misdeamor is drug related. So you are starting out with two huge strikes against you. My best advice that I offer is to just keep pounding away at them. Try to get in to talk to someone face to face and you may have a better chance. However, the insurances companies do all the hiring now so thier hands may be tied.

I always thought felonies only had to be 10 years old.. or maybe that's DUI's. I don't know, I've never had to fill in that blank on an application.

Thats what most say is 10 years and 15 on a drug charge I was told which is ridiculous but then I was told that any theft felony charge disqualifies me from a couple of places

Unfortunately, it's an employers market with the economy being the way it's been - i.e. for every 1 applicant with a single felony in their entire life, there are 100 applicants with a totally clean past.

The theft charge is DEFINITELY a huge X in this industry - for obvious reasons...

Don't get discouraged, keep looking, I have found in my searches a few companies that state they will consider you with a Felony... You just have to look at EVERY company out there....NOT just the big named ones...smaller is not always a bad thing, in many cases it is actually a lot better. IMHO

Yeah, kind of like if I were to start a thread saying something like

"I've got 3 rollovers, 12 DUIs, and my CDL is suspended. I just escaped from prison for stealing a truckload of laptops. Know anyone who will hire me?"

I called my company's recruiter once and asked her that, but she recognized my voice. :biggrin_2559:
