    Hello
looks like werners taking care of him wich is a good thing. after swaping out trainers a few times they don't know whats going on out there with trainers and trainee's unless it's brought to there attion!! and bringing up joslins point yes most trainers are in it for the miles yea if i was ever to train yea the extra cash is nice but id'e want that trainee to walk off the truck knowing what they were doing. god forbid they had a wreck and killed someone or themselves. and yes you could goto the worst carrier and get the best trainer or the oppisite way around. well as far as shifting you could rent a penske truck for a weekend and practice or start driving dump truck and tear up there transmissions :biggrin_2559: just teasing ya

Yes trainers get there pay docked if a trainee gets into an accident. There in lies the problem with a lot of trainers, if they can get you to quit before you test out with them they won't be responsible if you have an accident or even an incident( yes they get docked for that too).

How long would Werner typically stick with a new driver?

The O/P started with Werner in April.

    Hello Group:

Well, I have heard a few Trainees tell me that they were out on the road for 3 Months and even 5 Months. I asked them why It was this long and they just told me that each of their Trainers set them back to the beginning (275 or 175 hours) and then they had to have their breaks for home time or leaves.

Werner is very Good about giving people as much time off as they request and would like to have between Trainers. It's incredibly nice for me to realize that Werner has paid for me to have an upgraded Motel room in a 5 star hotel with an excellent one meal per day and in a nice neighborhood, just so that I could have the free time in order to pursue my CBT's.

I guess that I had to wait longer for a trainer because I already had a few Trainers and I was at the bottom of the list and then I had to get an additional amount of waiting time because I requested the Dollar General dedicated route where there are less Trainers.

Well, I wound up screwed up anyway, whether I did It to myself or It was unavoidable due to my circumstances in this past week. I had to wait about a Week and a half for my scalp injury and strength to finally return and got my stitches out (9) from my Landscaping accident. I would have made it back to Werner within their 30 day leave of absence window, but I could'nt unfortunately. I wanted to go "whole hog" on the Dollar General account, but now I may be fenced out of Werner for some time, I don't know how long.

I am supposed to call up recruiting tomorrow and ask them if they can kindly take me back in, since I was out 4 days longer than I was really supposed to be. It was'nt my choice and I feel really sad and frustrated about It now. I am interested in working for a place in the company that few people really care about very much at all. All I can say is that my old company (K&G's) was a lot like Werner and the Dollar stores and doing the Werner Dollar store routes would have been like my Truck Driving dream come true.

I'll see what they have to say about me coming back to work for them tomorrow. I don't mean to take their Training money and run, if there's a track for me to fit into now or six Months or a Year from now.

    Hello Whoosedog and the group:

My Trainers have all told me to "not have any accidents and to stay on the job for six Months" so that they won't have any problems with signing me off.

I believe that this is the Werner policy as well as the policy of the FFE, where I worked for 8 weeks before I came over to Werner.

I thought that based upon your previous posts that you were on the road as recently as 6/28. Wouldn't that put you within 30 days?

    Hello RCA1802:

I had the idea that I was within the 30 day limits myself. I don't know if somebody there in Werner's HQ got the wrong information or if It was a technical error by one of their machines or maybe a Data entry operator.

In any case, I have spoken to my recruiter and I was given a new medical release form by the Allentown Terminal to give to my Doctor so that he can medically clear me for returning to work. I will have him FAX this form in to corporate and recruiting.

The people in recruiting are going to review my new application for Werner and let me know how to proceed after they recieve my clearance form. They asked for 2 of them, one for my scalp injury and one for my diabetes test results.

Hey Joe;Don't you wish trucking was less rules and BS like it was years ago? My uncle drove a truck years ago when as long as you could shift and follow a map you had a good job.He would work during the day as a carpenter then work a 2nd job driving a local tractor trailer run for 6 hours. No cdl was required, log books or any HOS regulations. Made good money too till he had enough to buy a house, paid cash for his pickup truck. He also drove a city bus for awhile only NYC required a chauffeurs license.Never any formal schooling;just learned from another driver how to shift and back. The only bad thing was no AC,but you dealt with it,back then drivers took care of each other, not like today.

    Hello Whoosedog and the Group:

I don't think It's that much of a problem in Today's world to drive a Truck. All You have to be is responsible for is being willing to work, showing up on time and entering a few Bill of Laden numbers, Truck numbers and change of duty status ID's into the Qualcom. Of course then You will have to be Safe in regards to not having any accidents and being citation free. I don't worry about anything else.

You can't worry about anything or concentrate on any one safety factor for very long I guess. Someone told me to not even look into any one mirror for very long or You will start drifting the Truck in that direction.

I just got back with Werner this Morning, right after my Doctor Faxed in my medical release for my Diabetes and the scalp wound. Werner was nice enough to call me at quarter to Nine in the Morning and to invite me back to the Allentown Terminal tomorrow morning in order to fill out all of their paperwork at 7 O'clock.

I asked them for a Dollar store route to work on near Philadelphia PA, close to the Fort Washington area where I live and they gave me the Family Dollar account in Port Royal VA which is'nt too far away, about 200 Miles.

I asked them about how many hours I still have to go in their program and the recruiter told me I have 85 hours in now, and the minimum that I would need to do would be 70 so that's cool.

Family Dollar store Trucks do not use any Rolltainers, so I think that they are probably a lot Safer to operate, instead they use roller lines into the store where the store people have to distribute the products. I don't even think that we have to go into the stores at all. The only thing is to unload everything they have by hand. It's not that much of a problem for me anyway and It's Good for You.
