I was watching Ice Road Truckers last night and I was wondering if its really that crazy for most of the northern region? I was thinking that the tv show is just trying to spice it up a bit! Looks fun, though!

The show is scripted to add DRAMA / CONTROVERCY.

I was thinking that. So the roads are really not as bad for most of the upper part of the Great Canadian Region?

The roads are rough , especially some of the bush roads that HUGH is running on.

The DALTON is a regular 2 lane gravel highway , smoother in the winter than the summer ( pot holes and washboardy ) with BIG hills / mountains.

Hard on trucks running up there and everything costs BIG $ , a basic bunk for the night in Prudoe Bay ( if you find one ) is $100.00

The highways are fine up here, some of the bush roads would scare alot of people but all in all IRT is complete BS and a farce of the trucking up here and the trucking industry. I don't watch the show for its insight or knowledge, I watch it to laugh my ### off of the BS and false truths.

YT, when i was up there for WhitePass in 69/70, there were 84 glaciers between Carmacks and Faro. All gravel with the biggest power being a 335 with a 13 speed.

Is that why your Dad has Glacier Drilling ??? lol

That road seperated the men from the boys.

Out of 26 trucks, 11 of us were ex GILL drivers and we also pulled A-Trains while the rest just ran 5 axles with ore containers.

Your Grandpa would remember those days.

Between Carmacks and Faro is one of my most favorite stretches of road I have ever driven on. And to this day very little has been done in terms of major road construction. The road is exactly as you drove it but with chipseal on it now.

No the name came as a carry over of his water well drilling company. We also had a company called Summit Fuels so I think he likes using names associated with snow ice and mountains lol.
