We all could die at any time.
Like I said, what's better for the kid: a parent who loves the kid, but dies, or no one to love the kid? "Tis better to have loved and lost than never loved at all."

Overweight trucker loses foster son
7/30/07
Weighing in at close to 500 pounds, OOIDA member Gary Stocklaufer of Independence, MO, knows hes overweight.
But that hasnt stopped him from helping his wife, Cynthia, raise their 7-year-old adopted son, Bobby.
Thats why the couple was amazed recently when they tried to adopt Max, the baby of a cousin who couldnt care for him.
Instead of getting the quick approval they expected, a state judge ruled that Stocklaufer is unfit for foster parenthood because of his weight and took Max out of the couples home, where he had been living for three months.
I think its blatant discrimination against myself. Size should never have been an issue, Stocklaufer said. It wasnt an issue six years ago when I was the same size and it was the same judge that let me adopt my other son.
Stocklaufer said he believes his career is another way hes being discriminated against in the case.
Now that Im a full-time over-the-road truck driver, they say thats another key factor; that my wifes basically a single parent because Im never home. And thats not the case, the trucker said.
Stocklaufer said his lawyer is filing for a rehearing.

Yes maybe thats it
Not sure how truck driving over the road and foster kids work
This helps clear allot up

That's just not right that his career should be a factor. What about military parents? They are gone from the home much more than a trucker. What about a law enforcement parent? They work odd hours, maybe they are not fit parents. This takes us down a slippery slope that I sure don't want to see.
-
Yes, yes and yes!!!
It is a slippery slope!
Curious what the judge is thinking?
Has he seen the light some how?
Or is he ready for retirement and wanting to wrongly change law?
-
I see the point you're trying to make, but I don't think there are many people in the Army trying to adopt.
