Yes they actually said it was because I had no experience with a dump bed. If you have that option of extra experience with your dads truck that will help you out. Even if you never get behind the wheel if hes willin to say that you did. I kinda got off what I was meaning when I said that. A cdl is great for some people but I recommend tryin to get various experience if you can so you will have something to fall back on.

Aright I have an idea lol.

I will pratice driving my dads dump truck " His dump truck doesnt have air brakes though.

So what i'll do is I'll have a friend i know that has a CDL rent a dump truck with air brakes for me to take the CDL test and to pratice more with using air brakes.

I can write down 7 years of work history driving a dump truck and if they are able to see that I just got my CDL license i will just tell them the dump truck I drove didnt have air brakes.

Is there a way for them to look up my driver license to see when I first got it? I would figure so.

I actually just want to drive like a small vendor truck. I notice some that are small enough you dont even need a cdl for it. But it will look good for my application plus with me able to write down that kind of experiance.

Im not sure that they can tell exactly when you got your cdl but there has to be a way or everyone would have experience drivin for jim and bob. If a vendor truck is all youre looking to drive sounds like a decent plan. They probably wont count it but always worth a try say you ran your dads truck off road dont need a cdl for that. Places like coke and pepsi mainly look at your work history to see if your dependable and stable. Then evaluate any cdl experience you have. I know for a fact here pepsi recommends all drivers have at least a class b, so if something comes up they have a driver that can roll the truck since the bulk truck is more important than the little pickups.

Yah cause they probably require experiance under the CDl license.
The interesting thing is Coke in town is hiring a truck driver right now actually.
Im a pretty straight cut really likeable guy too. Putting this stuff on my application may at least land me a job interview. so maybe with some charm and stuff i can stick out.

I went OTR and then I ran a rolloff hauling garbage. Once I had the rolloff experience using hydraulics and dumping, I was able to secure dump truck jobs.
If you have no experience, they can tell. You need to build a foundation of doubleclutching and shifting various transmissions. There's a few things to learn whether you are loading your own dirt or going to a pug mill, spreading gravel or hauling asphalt.

It's good for a young person to go to school and see the country while paying the school off. Most drivers enjoy their first year. Then you have your foundation to get any job.

If you want a vendor job, all you need is your class B, if that. I worked for Coke also. Pepsi and Budweiser are much better as they load their trucks in order. Coke doesn't and you have to dig every stop. But I have a buddy that is still with coke and after about 8 years he was promoted into management. He's making around $70K now.

Driving a dump is seasonal and a dead end job. But it's fun. A rolloff is also alot of fun and can make a decent wage. Perks are you find alot of stuff as you turn into a dumpster diver. :) I use to like the Walmart loads. They throw away alot of returns. I've got fishing rods, camping gear and all kinds of goodies. No matter how bad the economy gets, people have to eat and throw away garbage.

You can even make good money running these bread or potato chip trucks. If you like staying in motels, Schwann's isn't that bad. My brother worked for them when he was younger.

One way to get in a dump is to get a job with your local highway dept as a laborer. I know a couple guys that done that and they helped them get their CDL and start driving dump.

The thing about OTR. I can't sleep if the guy that im team with has the radio on while I sleep. I also cant sleep on couches or chairs. So not sure if i can even sleep in a truck while its moving. I think that part is bothering me more then anything.

Other than time out with a trainer you wont have to worry about that unless you team. but im the opposite lol i can sleep anywhere and if i dont have noise i cant sleep. slight rocking and vibration of the motor when i first started with a trainer i slept like a baby

Yah I do require noise when i sleep. infact they did a study that 85 percent of people sleep better with noise. But this is white noise im talking about. Fans, air purifiers, stuff like that. So a motor probably be about the same.

The other factor is I dont have the money to pay a truck driving school so I would have to go with Prime or PAM and they have you team for a few months after you get your CDL dont they?

You might not sleep good the first week. If you are tired enough you will sleep and get use to it. Most team driving is respectful for the one sleeping. They have to sleep too if you know what I mean. :)
