I was wondering what the best stuff to outfit a truck with... figured I would get a 2000 watt inverter, then I want to get a tv, and fridge... anyone have any good ideas on the best to get for my money... and as far as pulling power from the batteries..

Unless it's your truck, you most likely aren't going to use that big of an inverter.

That inverter will not only cook the batteries, while running at capacity, but the alternator too.

It will require wiring the size of battery cables or bigger to operate it at capacity. It would need to be connected directly to the battery and be fused at the battery.

Let's just say, I wouldn't want it on my truck.

A 2000 Watt inverter will draw 167 Amps. Something close to what a car starter will draw.

The other post you saw talking about an 1800 Watt inverter with an APU would have really been an 1800 Watt generator driven by the APU.

As far as I know most truck alternators are about 90 -120 Amps.

I saw another of your posts where you said you heard May was allowing 2000 W inverters. If this is the case I'm sorry for bothering you with my post. I would strongly advise you to call and make sure though.

Do they have APUs on their trucks?

If your with a good company that keeps you busy you'll only need your necessities for sleeping and you won't have time for any of that other stuff. :biggrin_25525:

no apu's and they used to go with 1500 watt inverters.... I am fine with 1500 watt...... yeah I know you don't need the stuff but if you plan on being out for along time, doesn't hurt to have some extras...

If your just starting out, cash may be at a premium. A 12 volt Coleman cooler can be had for about $ 90 at Walmart. It works good, I have one. Good bedding, critical, you need to sleep well.

Focus on things that will make your life easier (your life on the road is your job). A Rand Mcnally deluxe atlas, spiral bound. The Pocket Truck Stop Guide, find it in a truck stop, good little booklet full of truck stops/rest areas all over the country. When the money is there, the Rand Mcnally 510 or 710 gps.

The things that make your job easier, makes you more efficient, allowing you to make money to by all the other creature comforts. Those items should be first.

I'm out 5 weeks at a time, no apu or inverter in my truck. No microwave, nothing. The items that I listed above, and this smart phone. That's it. Extras are later, build something first.

Really? No time to eat? The fridge and microwave are there so you don't have to pay $15 at Denny's for every meal, or eat the garbage in the deli at the J.

I ran a Walmart (GE) fridge off my inverter forever... only drew about 600 watts, worked much better than one of those fan coolers, and was $104.

With the fridge and microwave, too.... I get to eat momma's good cooking for about a week - make some stew, spaghetti, soup, whatever... put it in small dishes with lids, heat and eat. Beats the hell out of those canned dinners or "compleats"...

Wash them and store them, and when passing through Northern Idaho on 90, go by mother in laws and get them refilled with something else.
