Hello. I own a local and long distance moving company. I recently added a Semi and a 48' drop frame trailer to our fleet. I have a couple questions about what I can do to keep my truck busy when we are not hauling for our customers. I might use the semi truck 4-5 times a month, other than that, it just sits. It's a real nice truck and I'd like to put some extra miles on it.

My other question is when we do a move for a customer we almost always drive back home empty. Any ideas on finding some loads far away from home?

    Thanks,
    davis

When you say "semi" are you talking day cab or an over-the-road capable truck? What type of trailer to you have with it?

Check some of the load boards like Internet Truckstop and see if they have an option for your type of trailer. That would be your best bet if they do. Or google "load boards" and look for ones that let you try it before subscribing.

Nothing from nothing but do everybody a favor and remove the word backhaul from your vocabulary please. Your truck burns the same fuel going away from the house as it does towards it, same for permits, maintenance, profit...........

    Ok rant over.

    Yes check the load boards.

Or you could check depending on area with people like Frito Lay, P+G for pringles, or Hot Water manufactures they like the added cube your type of van provides.

Doesn't Bekins run some sort of load board, or Atlas?

A step deck van will hinder getting loads from warehouses, since it is too low to line up with a dock plate.

Frito Lay's trailer have jacks on them to reach the deck plates. Without them you might be in trouble.
