Now if other people could follow suit and give constructive advice, this place might be a little more informative to everyone that has real questions that deserve real answers instead of the typical "Run away!" or "Beware!" nonsense.

 

I don't see what everyone's issues with CRE is. I've been with the company a year now, and have no complaints.

As already mentioned, it's what you make of it. I took the refresher in Burns Harbor and enjoyed my time there. They say Phase I and II training will last 3 months, but that figure is a average. I was done training and in my own truck within 3 weeks.

Before you lease, read the dang contract before you sign it. Everything about your particular lease is right there in black and white.

Read the material the company gives you during orientation. Just like the lease contract, everything is there in black and white.

 

Not trying to compete or anything by no means, but my wife and I have been with them for over 2 and a 1/2 years with no major complaints. Drove team as company employees for the first 6 months and have been leasing ever since.

On a side note, no experience is the same and just because something didn't work out for one person doesn't mean it won't work for you. Granted, the reverse is also true as well but at least be honest, upfront and include all the details on why it didn't work other than spouting the normal crap that has been way overused.

Can't agree with this statement more. Even if the contract may or may not exactly be in the favor of the driver, read the mo-fo COMPLETEY and THOROUGHLY before you sign your name to it. If you don't agree with the terms outlined in front of you, but all means, don't sign it. Sleep on it. Put in some heavy duty thinking towards it. If still you don't agree with the contract, don't sign it!

 

I took out a 6 month demo lease and returned it to go company. I got offered a position in relief recovery and I love it. 35 cents a mile to start with and I average 2,500 to 3,000 miles a week. No lease payment hanging over my head. No fuel costs, etc.

I've been driving this same truck for 2 months now. Honestly, I think this IC quit when he took home time and the company wants me to finish the lease, which is alright with me as I love this truck. It has a working 5th wheel slide, so if the IC wanted it back he was gonna have to fight me for it.

We wanted to start off with a demo but couldn't find a truck that wasn't a POS or an ashtray so we went with a three year, brand-spanking new truck.

Those 5th wheel air cans are nice, aren't they? Our truck came with it removed and after talking with a shop mechanic one nite, I convinced one to give me one. My 5th wheel now stays about halfway back most of the time because I like my steer axle to stay around 11,5k. Get way better tire wear too. If England wants to have the steer axles so heavy on the red trucks, be my guest. I don't have to pay for those trucks.

 

Where did you upgrade from? I upgraded in SLC, and they had several 6 month demos to choose from. I ended up with a 2010 Cascadia; which was a nice truck, but it nickled and dimed me to death. With all the new parts I had installed in that truck, whoever got it after me got a nice ride. Even though it had 350,000 miles. Also, that truck passed 2 DOT inspections since I had it.

Yes, they are nice. My demo truck didn't have one, and England had it set to the first hole, which pratically placed the reefer in the sleeper birth. I have this truck set up perfectly. With a loaded trailer; I'm no more than 11,300 on my steer, 32,000 on my drives and 32,000 on the tandems.

 

We went to school, trained and upgraded out of Salt Lake.

All the demo's they had at the time we were lookin' were a couple old-arse classics and century's. I guess that was part of the scam, huh?.......LOL!

I got no real regrets with this truck, just wish it went faster and let me decide when it can idle but its cool, there's ways around it I've found.

With all the crap we got in this tractor along with our animals, its not difficult to have over 13k pushin' down on that steer axle with the 5th wheel set were the "almighty's" at England had it set.

 

Century's aren't bad and will pratically last forever if you take care of them. I hate Classic's though. They are a nice ride on the freeway, but a royal pain in the butt to maneuver in tight spaces. Cascadia's you can almost drive like a car.

No, it isn't that hard. I regularly had to go back to a shipper and rearrange the freight as sometimes my steer axle would have as much as 15,000 LBS on it. I'm suprised I didn't break the axle or blow a tire.

 

I just left England on the Sept 2nd. Took my truck to Burns Harbor. I was shocked by 2 things when I did this. 1st, they offered me and another guy who left England with me, a bus ticket home. 2nd, they said we could return to England any time we wanted to, as long as we picked up our leases where we left off.

 

That deals more with Horizons than it does England as the truck belongs to Horizons, not England. You aren't necessairly a England employee as a IC. You're contracted to pull freight for them. As long as you give Horizons enough notice before you turn in a truck, you can lease from them any time you want.

You also did the right thing by returning the truck to a terminal instead of abandoning it, leaving drivers like me trying to find where you left the truck at.
