That's a bummer. I don't know how the NE Ext will be. Most likely ok, though. Pittston might be the problem, as dispatch warned you about. I don't know how far or high the terminal is from the river, but it's is now expected to crest at 41.8 ft some time tomorrow. If it tops the levees, and I'm not sure if there even are any in Pittston, it's going to be a mess.

Best of luck and be safe John.

Made it to my delivery. Got here at 1am this morning. Getting unloaded right now. I had to go 17-66-81-78 becuase 83 was closed in York due to flooding. 81 is closed at the 90mm to the 101mm. I'm 66 miles to the yard right up the NE Extension. I get to move into my new truck today. That's always fun.....Not!

How was your trip up to Pittston, John? Be glad you went to Allentown and didn't have to go through Harrisburg and up the Susquehanna along 22/322. This is a photo of the Duncannon/Clark's Ferry area near the bridge and the Pilot Truckstop.

The yard is about a mile and a halfish from the river, so its not in any danger from the river itself. Runoff coming down the hill can be a problem, though. It tends to deposit a lot of dirt and crap by the railroad tracks.

The Plains warehouse is another story. It was not directly affected by flooding, but nearby road closures make it difficult to get in and out especially if you don't know the area. The access road between N Washington and Main Sts has been closed since the rain started and most likely will be closed indefinitely. The ballfield on the corner of Washington and the access road was completely flooded yesterday, although the water had gone down considerably by early evening.

On Thursday I looked out my kitchen window in downtown Pittston and I could see the Susquehanna nearly covering the pilings on the Water St bridge that goes into West Pittson and Exeter. I took a walk down by the waterfront and watched the debris float by. Lots of trees. Garbage. Parts of what appeared to be a camper. Parts of houses. Those blue plastic drums from God knows what factory. Somebody's oil tank. (The evil part of me wished I had a fishing pole to reel that one in.)

I was standing about ten feet above the surface of the water. When the river is at normal levels you can look down about forty feet or so from that point and see the waterfront park. There are steps leading down from near the Water St bridge to a sidewalk that goes for a few hundred feet. They have some nice landscaping and park benches to sit on and watch the river go by. I like to walk through there once in a while, but by the looks of things it will be full of mud for some time.

Germania Hose (a fire department from Duryea which is the next town north of Pittston) had their dive team going up and down the West Pittston side on rubber boats. A man had to be rescued from his trailer home. When you look across the river, Susquehanna Avenue in West Pittston can be seen. There are some very nice houses that are right along the river. They are now flooded out completely. Both bridges (Water St and Ft Jenkins) were closed. Much can be said for bridges down the valley. The only bridges over the river that are still open would be the North Cross Valley Expressway (PA 309) and maybe the South Cross Valley (PA 29). Not that there's any point in going that way; much of
US 11 is flooded out. The Market St bridge from Wilkes Barre to Kingston is closed. I heard on the news yesterday that it was starting to crack.

And I'm wondering about the Eight St Bridge that goes from the Port Blanchard section of Pittston to Wyoming. They just opened the new bridge but the hundred year old bridge it replaced has only been halfway torn down. I don't go down River St very much but if I'm not mistaken the old bridge is upstream from the new bridge. Which is, by the way, a little lower than the old bridge.

The Garden Drive In on US 11 just south of West Nanticoke had to be closed up and stripped down for the third time this year. And let me tell you, this is quite an affair that involves five-man-lifting two movie projectors out of their booths and onto a liftgate. At least we have liftgate equipment now; they used to lift them onto the tailgate of a dry van. And these are old fashioned movie projectors like what you see on Turner Classic Movies in between shows sometimes. They weigh a TON. And don't get me started on that %*%*^%* ice chest in the concession stand. Several monkeys taking indecent liberties with a football may come to the mind of an observer. The enormity of the flooding in that area can be summed up thusly: the last thing we did before leaving was chain the sheds to their nearby trees.

To say its been an adventurous week would be an understatement. Thank God its almost over.

I've had no problem with it tipping over, the only problem I had was it walking out but I was able to stop it buy moving one of the stops that was in rear to the front and have had no more problems since.
