OMG! Who in their right mind would ever try something like that. Sorry it hit me as being funny for some reason. Absolutely incredible thinking going on there.
Prayers for your family too. I have one nephew leaving next month and another one leaving in March. If I was younger I would have enlisted too. -
Guess it was a nice place to come to a stop if he did fall asleep. It's interesting that when they were talking about the origin it says they didn't know if he was unaware of the tracks! What about the "mountain" itself..... still don't know why its striking me as funny, must be too much time on the PC lately.................that could happen to any one of us given the right circumstances

I am really hoping that he lost control to weather conditions ... can't imagine being on the road with someone that would try and pull off a stunt like that .. that scaires me.

I have some doubts about the story that accompanies the photos. It looks like a real accident, not something photoshopped. But I highly doubt that he drove at 55 mph across the rough ground they show leading up to the embankment. I can't imagine that a truck would be able to cross that ground at any kind of speed. There are also no tire marks visible leading up to the hill that correespond to the damaged truck, though in one of the photos you can see that one of the wreckers left tracks at an angle leading up to the rear of the truck
I also don't think that he would attempt to climb that steep of a grade with a truck at that kind of speed. And I don't think the trailer rubbing on his wheels stopped him as much as the dolly legs being more than two foot below the ground did. Without being able to see the ground opposite the front end of the truck, I would be more inclined to suspect that someone made a foolish decision to back up on the wrong road and backed over the edge, vice driving forward up it.
The trailer is junked from the pictures, and they should have a fuel spill to clean up from the fuel tank on the reefer. And if the engine of the reefer kicked on, then it probably wiped out the crankshaft due to oil starvation. they aren't made to work at that angle. -
It's obvious what happened - this driver was under the illusion he had a road train and got confused by thinking he needed to use the rail tracks as the road :>))
