I looked at my Social Security statement. I started in 1995 but it was a part year.
    1996 I made $25,903 Then the next year I made $28,164. My best year was 2007, I made $60,835.

I showed you that so you see how they are beating drivers today.

Today, some of you have to remember perdiem. Some have it subtracted from gross and it doesn't show that. On my paystubs was gross and seperate from that was my perdiem. On my W-2's, it doesn't even show perdiem.

So if your paystubs aren't showing perdiem, make sure to add it in.

I can't comment on my first year, because that was 1972.
However, looking at my trainees, I quote it like this: You will average 0.28/mile your first year. The MINIMUM acceptable miles for a company driver is 2300 per week. This means if you aren't getting AT LEAST that many miles, your DM has to answer for it.
So based on those miles and pay, you will make somewhere around $32,000.
There are those that average more miles per week. There are a lot of variables. If you increase that average by 200 miles per week, you will make over $35,000.
Nothing to write home about, however, for someone beginning a new career, it ain't half bad. If you're trying to remake yourself after being downsized after age 50...it sucks!
My first year with this company (a training company), I made over $40,000, but I'd been around the block a few times so I avoided some of the chuck holes.

If it wasn't for the money I'd never got in a truck! Happy with 25k a year I'd flip burgers. I just started with a local company and 4 days of work I made $830. But I'm GREEDY I won't turn down a load I sleep when I can and I'm rolling when my 10 is up.

Please name a starter company that starts you at 0.32 CPM. I don't think there are many that will have you at 0.32 during your first year.

All honesty there's too many factors to just say you'll make $ X a wk or year. Some wks will be low some will be high you have to look at it by the year and how hard you're willing to work. YOU are the biggest factor.

I can do better than that. I can name two right off the bat:

TMC says on their website that new drivers who opt for mileage pay earn up to 37.5 cets/ mi.

Millis transfer starts newbie drivers out at 35 cents a mile.

Of course neither of these are 32 cents... they are higher.

Those are the first two I checked I'd imagine there are others but I'm not a newbie and have no real incentive to spend any significant time in finding them I'm sure the newbies can search on their own an make their own phone calls.

I am glad to finally see someone else like this. I am sure I will work hard and do my best, but with my programming business if I have a choice between killing myself and being miserable for some extra money, or being very happy and relaxed and doing good financially, I rather choose to be happy and relaxed. As long as my bills are paid and I have a little money extra to buy things that I need or want, I am totally happy. I do not need to have a million dollars in my savings account and die at an early age never to spend it.
