Any online tools you would like me to program to make trucking easier/more fun?

While I am sitting around waiting for class to start I have some free time to create some scripts/websites. If there is an online tool that you always wanted as a trucker let me know and I may create it :) For example, a facebook type site for truckers, or automated reminder emails sent to you, etc. Let me know and with enough support I can create it for you guys to use.

I'm thinking something maybe that would be a phone app (preferably Android since that's what I have :biggrin_25525:) that would be a kind of hybrid between a truck stop guide with services listing (like Trucker Tools and TruckSmart) and an HOS calculator/countdown (like GadgetTrucker HOS) so you can look at it and it will plot the stops available to you based on HOS clock. Just tell it where you're going, it reads the GPS from the phone and says "hey, there's a Petro with 70 parking spots, $3.95gal fuel, 20 showers etc 1 hour before you need to stop and 4 hours before your drop". And with a 'social' side to it that could say "hey, NewNashGuy is at the Petro too!" like Facebook 'Places', or somethin like that. Seems like it would be relatively easy as it's just mashin together stuff that's already out there, just changin it up enough that it works together...I guess, right?

What ever you come up with, I'll give it a shot as a volunteer beta-tester.

Good idea but sorry I forgot to mention that phone apps are coded in a language that I do not deal with. I was referring more to website data. On second thought perhaps I should use this free time to enjoy my last days at home.

What sort of scripting and language? ActionScript, JavaScript, Pearl, CSS, XHTML, HTML, Flash? I done a bit of this several years ago. However when things started going south, I realized it was more of a PITA than it was worth.

I would have to say the most PITA coding I've ever done was Assembly, For a home-project I made my own little calculator/alarm clock/asteroids/note taker/computer and it the best 8 months that i ever spent on that project.

I'm more of a Web Design to Software Dev. I hate dealing with Assembly or any thing resembles Assembly, (LOLCode for an Example)

But I could make an App for Droid/Apple/Windows for the HOS thing that's an easy project. Will i? not likely... lol

Can you make a program that automatically takes my evening and weekend qualcomm messages and routes them straight to my DMs home completely bypassing the 'special' folks at evening and weekend dispatch? That would be great.

    wicked and bullhaulerswife Thank this.

Ya, I would appreciate having qualcom access while away from the truck!

I don't think it is possible without help from the trucking side...

You are correct; As you would need permission from the Company and From Qualcomm (depending on the model and OS installed)

Only 70 spaces but 20 showers eh?

That struck me as funny for some reason. ( a common average would be closer to 300 spaces and 8 showers).
