*sigh*
GT, your initial question was where would be a good place to seek employment.
Now you're getting your britches bound up because there are narrow minded people driving trucks. I believe you will find the same percentage of people who will stare as you will in downtown Oklahoma City. Whether someone approaches you and your partner or not....who knows. But, the likelihood is very small. Guys are always bigger behind a CB microphone.
Really, what do you want? A place to work? Or to eradicate the trucking industry of hateful people? One is not only possible, but well within reach. The other will never happen.
Choose your battles wisely. Look for accepting people and be pleasantly who you are....and you will find them. Walk around with a chip on your shoulder looking for trouble....and you will find that too.
Any gay friendly training companies?

So some may bothered. Some may not. Those who are bothered, you care why? Doesn't matter what and where in life there are small minded tools who want to make an issue out of nothing. Just browse these forums for example. Just get on on with it, you want to be a truck driver or do you want to be a spectacle.Blackadder47 and AfterShock Thank this. -
Keep it to yourself...keep it to yourself. That's all fine in theory but not in actuality. What about those gay men and women who you look at and you can just tell they're gay. They can't necessarily keep it to themselves because their appearance is rather obvious. They can't help it, that's just who they are and they're not ashamed of who they are. Why should they have to keep it to themselves, they don't have a problem with who they are, other people have a problem with who they are. They shouldn't have to suffer because of that.
What about being in a truck with a trainer and in the course of just getting to know who you're training with the trainer asks if you're married? Well of course you are, you and your partner of 17 years just got married in New York before you left for training and it's an exciting time for the two of you. Why should you have to hide that?
There was a guy in orientation a few months ago who had white power tattoos and late one night, while sitting among a small group of drivers, proceeded to tell racist jokes thinking we all shared the same beliefs as he did. I easily could have gone to HR in the morning and reported him and he would have been sent home on the next Greyhound. I didn't because the likelyhood of me ever seeing him at a terminal were pretty slim. He probably needed the job, too. I didn't agree with his point of view but I kept my comments to myself and respected him as a person.1nonly Thanks this. -
Even though the military got rid of the policy, DADT is a beautiful thing at times.
So long as you aren't showing up at shippers wearing buttless chaps, slapping rainbow stickers on your trailer, and stuff like that, I don't see why you feel the need to mention it honestly...
While employers can't discriminate based on your preference, they can come up with some other reason to not hire you. DADT. -

Luke, I'm your lover! -
maybe so, but if i was working on the death star and vader called me big boy i would still be about 40 times more scared than if he started choking me with the force.

Bulletproof, nobody said you have to like it and nobody said you aren't entitled to an opinion. However, being a union guy, you know there are things you are allowed to express at work and things you aren't. Hateful people call names and get physical simply because they disagree with something someone else is doing. And yes, there are hateful people all around us. Meaning all of us.
Now. What do you consider "bringing it to work?" Is it the obvious, partaking in activity while working? Or is it bringing a significant other on the road and showing affection during off duty time? What is the difference between me taking my ol man out on the road, you taking your wife and GT taking his partner? And why should you care anyway?
If you are a God-fearing Christian, you will pray for people you don't believe are "living right" and be an example of what you believe "living right" is, rather than further alienate with nasty words and hateful actions.
You are absolutely entitled to an opinion. And GT is entitled to live his life as he sees fit, whether you like it or not.Blackadder47, AfterShock and notezbngrn71 Thank this.
