Woman In Labor Fined $1150 For Speeding To Hospital

Just another way of trying to extract money from people.

THEY don't give a #### as to the reason or whys or any kind of an excuse anymore, even giving birth is out of the question.

 

I'm sitting here wondering what on earth was going on the mind of that trooper that pulled her over!! He should have escorted her to the hospital rather than taking the TIME to write her a ticket! Insanity.

 

So it's ok to break the law if you are pregnant?

57 in a 35 zone deserves a ticket.

She waited too long to get going.

 

I agree he probably should have got her to the hospital, but she still gets the ticket.

 

I bet people start slowing down in Virginia. lol

I don't feel sorry for these people. When you do something like this you have to take responsibility. A lot of people get killed every year because of reckless driving.

I don't know what to think about this incident with this pregnant lady, somethings telling me there is more to her story then reported. She was going 56/35, but her charges stuck, while another lady was going 80/55, but her charges were lowered. That tells me this pregnant lady probably had a bad driving history, or something. There's more to that story.

 

I agree that she was going too fast too. We've had a few emergencies out here where we live and I have always called ahead and told them we were on the way and would be speeding. Had a radiator cap that blew up on my son, he came running in the house, jumped in the shower, was pulling his shirt off and all I could see was skin falling off with the water. (Where we live ambulance response would be longer to get here than the time it takes to get to a hospital.) He had it all over his face and eyes too. I don't think I've ever been that scared. I grabbed my cell, called 911 and told them I was heading in and what route, we had a trooper stop us in the town I was going through, (I did slow down to 10 MPH over to go through that town) guess he had missed the call somehow. All I did was jump out tell him I had to get to the hospital and didnt even wait for him to answer, got back in and pulled right out again speeding. He escorted us. That's twice we've had that happen.

The other time we didn't get stopped. I was visiting my dad in AZ.I waited a 15 minutes for the ambulance, was only 5 miles out of town and finally threw my kids in the blazer and flew in. A trooper saw us coming and turned around in front of us, escorted us in. I never saw him again. The ambulance hadn't even left the hospital yet. Small towns can be challenging at times.

I think the issue does't have as much to do with her having special rights because she's in labor (although she should, it is considered an emergency many times) as much as it's an issue of peoples responses to emergencys. When it comes to our uborn babies or children, there's not much anyone wouldnt do to keep them safe. We're just born that way. She should have called an ambulance or escort.

 

I agree that there might be more to the story than we are hearing. But what about the safety of others on the road? This woman was driving herself. Granted, I have never been in labor, but from what I've seen, those labor pains are a tad bit distracting. How is this woman safely driving? I don't want to be run down by someone driving who clearly shouldn't be. She needed an ambulance, or at least someone else driving her.

 

That's what I mean. In a reasonable situation (MOST) police and judges acted appropriately. That's why I feel there's more to this story. No cop will allow a lady in labor to drive herself to the hospital, or take time to write a ticket if she was showing real signs of labor. I just don't see that happening. Even if the cop was an ###, and gave her a ticket and her story was true, I don't see the judge not understanding and then lowering the charge. That tells me this "I'm in labor" story might have been developed after the fact to try to get out of the charge, and the judge figured it out.

 

That would have been the real nice thing to do for someone needing help.

WHY she didn't call an ambulance is beyond me in the first place. Other then the fact she was looking at the money aspect of it, which still does not make it right what she did.

BUT the COP, or bagel eater should have helped her. He is wrong for not doing so.
He must have had to go and see the FREE WILLY movie.
