Woman In Labor Fined $1150 For Speeding To Hospital

I think you're putting to much blame on the police officer in this. This incident is being reported from only one side of the story, her side. I just find it hard to believe it. There's more to it.

The reporter is only reporting part of the truth. It makes a great headline, and it probably helps fuel the fire on the whole fines and fees debate, but what's the whole truth? Who knows, we don't. I know in this kind of situation the last thing the judges will be doing is using a pregnant lady, going to a hosipital as an example of this war on speeding in Virginia.

 

Well there is NO doubt that some of the story is being left out.

Doesn't take away the fact that the uniformed dude should have done something other then issue a ticket.
If at some time...it's reported down the road that he did administer help to her..then I'll eat his bagel for him.

That's my point, who's to say he did know. I find it hard to believe a police officer would allow a lady to drive herself to the hospital in labor. He would be making himself liable if something happened. I doubt the whole story of this lady. I bet she couldn't prove it in court either, that's why the charges stuck. The facts of what happened are all speculation, but knowing what I know is enough for me to have doubts in her story.

There's no reason to think if the officer knew she was on her way to the hospital, or showing clear signs of labor that he wouldn't have helped her. That's a rasonable conclusion. Let's say he did help her, but she got the ticket too. I know from past experience, police officers don't have a choice in some cases. If your going a certain MPH over, or speeding in certain areas they still have to write a ticket, otherwise they can get into trouble themselves. So lets say her story is true, but under the conditions the officer still had to write a ticket. Now it's in the hands of the judge to do the right thing. For some reason the judge didn't have sympathy either. There's just a lot of holes in her story. It's not hard to get out of a speeding ticket, or at least get a reduced charge. There's just seems to be way more to this story then what the reporter told. I'm sure he just happened to be in the court room, and this lady was there and this was her story. Just like in prison, everyone's innocent.
