Best thing to do... call a recruiter. ONLY they can give you an answer for sure.

I'd think that's a deal breaker with any carrier in the industry. One of the problems that carriers have to deal with is what is known as "abandonment." This is where a driver just parks a truck, trailer and maybe a load anywhere - and walks away from it. Not only is there the real problem that the equipment may be vandalized, towed to impound or stolen, but there is also the real possibility that the cargo will be stolen as well. It costs a carrier a bundle to retrieve the equipment, repair and refurbish it as necessary, and placate both the shipper and receiver - if not pay for damaged or missing cargo.

Having that sort of history in your fiancee's background is not going to make anyone feel comfortable hiring him as a commercial driver.

Can anyone tell me how long it is from day one untill you start getting paid ? I have been looking got it narrowed down to three companies prime being my number one. That is partly because it is here in my home state. Thank you all and your threads are very helpful. One more question what is the best time of year to start training?

You're hired when you get your CDL... so the new guys can give you a better idea of how long that takes. Its 1 week of orientation, 10,000 miles with an instructor, and back to test out.

I think now is the best time to get in. I feel its very important to get some training time in the winter months so you have a better idea of how to handle a rig in really bad conditions while you're with someone experienced.

I have lived in NY my entire life and actually learned to drive in the snow. I was even stationed in Fairbanks Alaska when I was in the service so I take great pride in my ability to drive in bad conditions.

But I am curious and a bit excited to find out how much different it is to drive a Truck in that kind of weather. I am hoping I can get approved soon just so I can take that advice and get some training from someone experienced.

I saw that one company I was researching had some kind of radar based sensors on their trucks that told the computer to apply the brakes if the truck was too close to another vehicle in front of it. The first thing that came to mind was winter driving and how easy it would be for this system to kill some unsuspecting truck driver trying to negotiate an ice covered road.

i have to agree with IP esp if you have little or no experience in a rig. starting the program now wil put you training threw most of if not all the winter i believe
