Not sure if this should go here or in the ' Trucking Accident Reports ' section, but since its BC here goes:

A former driver with Columbia Fuels has been charged for tanker-truck crash on the Malahat Highway in April that caused huge traffic backlogs and spilled thousands of litres of fuel into the Goldstream River on Vancouver Island.

James Allan Charles Smith, 34, has been charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over .08, and dangerous driving. He is set to make his first court appearance Nov. 24.

Meanwhile, the environmental costs of the spill are still unclear, but the Goldstream hatchery says fewer salmon are entering the Goldstream River this year.

Columbia Fuels fired Smith in May, citing a breach of the company's safety and driving practices.

He may have been on comp and firing an employee while on comp may lead to problems. It certainly didn't say that they allowed him to drive again.
