i honestly dont know, some of these companies you hear of are owned by other companies or they are part of another company.....at least thats what i hear.

what i do know is that plains in midland hauls crude and they pay good and they have a 3k safety bonus every quarter. The one guy i know who works for them said it took 9 weeks to get hired with them. Some of these companies have lengthy processes to get hired. It may be shorter for some, maybe it has to do with how busy they are.....once again i'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure they pay by the load too but they pay an hourly as well if youre broke down or have to make a repair on your truck......at least thats what the guy who works for them told me.

One thing i do know is that there is alot of companies out there and it seems they all do things different as far as pay and hourly schedules. I think plains works 5 days on 2 off and then 5 on and 3 off. A schedule like that would drive me nuts, i'd rather work. I like nabors because its 4 days on and 1 day off until your schedule lands on saturday and then you get the weekend off......and still i work one of those days because i dont like having 2 days off in a row.

If i could work 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, i'd probably do it. Dont know of a company that does this for driving unless they operate within a certain radius?......not sure.

I just googled the company in texas and the first listing i saw was for sonora and i called up and got an interview scheduled. I had no idea of what sonora was like, i just wanted a job. To be honest, i never been happier, i love sonora and the surrounding areas, very little traffic and people, its great.

nabors in sonora historically has never had enough drivers, so i think you shouldnt have any problems any time of year as long as the oil industry doesnt take a dump.

Great information all around from all posters. I seen some challenging questions being asked of the OP. I read some very good advice that would work for me all the way around. I read somethings that made me cringe for a second. Love these forms and the people. Page 1-13 :)

5*stars folks. To all posters here.

Its not the greatest but its not like north dakota, you can find a motel no problem and theres houses that pop up for rent, i could have rented one for 425 a month, lots of guys here share trailer homes and live pretty cheap. You can find something.

I hear nabors in big lake is really short handed. Dont know what the living situation there is like though.

yes of course, but remember, big lake is similar to sonora, its a desolate town, no movie theatre, i mean basically nothing except your job, sleep and then your job again. Your next nearest town would be ozona and its a little more developed but i doubt they even have a movie theatre.

If this appeals to you, then come on down and i guarenteee you WILL get a job as long as your record and background are reasonably clean. Sonora needs drivers and we do work for nabors in big lake, so what does that tell ya?......as my main boss says, "do the math".

good luck and let us know how it goes if you go that route.

i love it hear in sonora and i love my job, its quiet here, the majority of people here work the fields and theres no ####### traffic here. I go to san angelo sometimes for necesities and i can only take an hour or two of that town, too many people, cars, people in a hurry etc.

I had plenty of that in california and i would have left that place to go and shovel ####. I basically did that in ohio and worked with a dislocated finger and blood blisters and was tickled pink as long as i didnt have to stay in california......then got laid off, drove back to cali for trucking school, never saw a cop the whole way, soon as i crossed the border from nevada to cali...BOOM, pulled over by a prick cop. man i hate cali.

Thank you!! I am going to go down there and check it out as soon as I take leave!! I'm with ya on the Cali thing!! I used to live in Lake Isabella/ Bakersfield area!! I loved it and I hated it at the same time!! After 16 years, I still have mixed emotions about the area!! I still have some family there but I do not plan to return anytime soon (maybe in another 10 years)!! I like the small town feel and I dislike the big cities so maybe Big Lake is the right choice for me!! Thanx again!!
