Hi yall new to the forum here , so greetings from south ga ! Just bought me a Stryker 447 from Doug at customcbs.com . Very great customer service and all around great guy. Im not new to cb radios but when its starts to get real technical thats where my head explodes haha. I understand most cb tech stuff but definitely not all. I had this radio peaked and tuned , dough said it puts out about 84 watts max after his peak and tune. I was advised to set the dead key around 2 watts and just let it swing on up to 84 per Doug. Im coming from a Cobra 29 LTD Chrome with a RFX75 that had a dead key of 17 and 70 ish max output. The cobra lasted for a day, I had purchased from another cb shop online and was advised to go to doug so I did. From what I was told with my new Stryker the Modulation Limiter was not cut, I know when these are cut it makes your radio sound like trash at least from what I have heard. I guess my question is, with the Stryker 447, I have that option to set the variable dead key , Is that the best option to set the dead key at 2 and let her swing up to the max output of 84 watts ? Or follow the 1:4 ratio rule from what I been told take your max output and divide it by 4 and thats what youe dead key needs to be for 100% modulation. I will not be running any amp just the radio as is on the 11 meter cb band only, with a wilson 100 roof mount antenna and a in line Dosy tr-1000 and a RK56 mic. **So low dead key and swing ? Or 1:4 ratio (21 DK est) ? Which is best ? Ive heard the 1:4 will cause a lot of heat, and the let her swing way will cause over modulation. I appreciate in advance all comments and help =) Thanks !

How about you...... set the dead key around 2 watts and just let it swing on up to 84 per Doug. You bought a very nice radio from a very good tech, Listen to him and enjoy your radio for many years.
Agent229 Thanks this. -

Agreed , just wanted some opinions on the subject in regards to the technical aspect of why swing is the way as opposed to the 1:4 ratio rule. Doug is the man I'll go with the way he said run it , I was just curious . Thanks again guys for helping a newbie out =)

Just would also like to say seen alot on forums about doug ain't in the business any more . I talked with him personally James just happened to be off work and Doug answered the phone and addressed all my questions. Doug is a busy man it seems creating these wonderful kick butt radios for us and prolly just don't have the time to speak with every coustomer . Just wanted to put that out there in regards to the " doug ain't in the biz anymore" comments. Again thanks Dieselman for the info !

I know this is an old post, but I just came across it in researching some snake oil for another guy.
If you watch in the video, the guy changes his wattmeter (but does not mention it) from the Average to PEP position between when he reads the deadkey to the peak modulation. To someone who didn't know what to look for, it would look as if his masterful ceramic diddle stick had somehow coaxed a 21:1 power ratio out of his super-cali-modulated-fragile-ballistic-Stryker.
I think I'll go in and post a follow-up on his video and ask him to either re-do his video with the wattmeter left in the Average Power position, or show us an oscilloscope display of the modulated carrier. -
Thanks
