I have a 95 Ford L9000 and it is smoking pretty bad. It smokes while accelerating and while at idle. I noticed today oil is coming out of the turbo charger tube and out of the manifold. When cold starting it takes about 10 minutes before it starts to smoke. Sometimes it is white and sometimes it is a dark gray. It tends to stumble / skip at an idle and sometimes a hear a little pop sound while the smoke comes out.
The oil looks good and I haven't lost any coolant.

I brought it to 3 repair shops and they say it is normal, however they always seem to find a big list of repairs non engine related that they wanna fix. So I can't seem to find an honest mechanic. It's almost like there afraid to even try to fix this problem.

So I'm going to attempt to repair this truck myself. it does have 590,000 on it so maybe it's time to replace the engine

If you have oil coming out, you have big problems. Are you sure it is oil? Sounds like injector slobber, an injector overfueling. The excess fuel is unburnt and mixes with the carbon to produce a liquid that look like oil but isn't. You engine may just need a set of injectors.

why would oil come out of the turbo vent tube? It does sound sluggish while idling. it also comes out after being run pretty good to. When it's just idling it only smokes every few minutes.

Oil pressure looks great and when your pulling a load the engine has plenty of life. This truck was a tractor conversion. It has a dump body and I use it to haul my case 580 backhoe.

It's just smoking way to much throughout the power band now. I'm just waiting to get pulled over by the DMV police.

I've had trucks in the past that did this type of thing but the oil pressure was bad. they would lose coolant and they had hardly any power. basically they needed rebuilds and they all were in the 900,000 mile range

May be the seals in the turbo are bad and letting oil by.

Which vent tube are you talking about? Like a waste gate pressure tube?

It's a tube on the driver side above the fuel filter. Oil will drip out from there then it will come out of the manifold between the first two cylinders.

Only happens when really working the engine, but smoke blows out during acceleration and every few minutes while idling. Kind of at a loss I don't have a diesel background only gas engines

Oh ok, that is just the crankcase vent tube. Yes some oil slobber from there is expected from an older engine. The oil from the exhaust manifold is a little worry-some. Shouldn't have anything. Again, this is where an overfueling or leaking injector will mix with carbon deposits and leak out and look just like oil. Basically get a drop of actual oil from the engine dip stick or something, and compare to a drop of the oil from the manifold. If they feel the same and have the same texture and viscosity, then it is oil. But, if the oil from the manifold feels thinner or not as slick, I would say it is fuel.

I'm begining to think it's an injector issue however the drips on the ground both look and feel the same. looks lite brown almost yellow and feels slick like oil. Would over fueling make the engine push out oil. Also what can I do to keep oil from coming out of the tube? if DOT inspectors see that they will red tag the truck for sure

Guys just tie on an empty jug to the vent line and drain it out every so often as needed, like an old washer fluid jug or something like that. If you have an injector that is over fueling, you will have increased blowby which will cause the increase in oil droplets coming out the vent.

okay now i'm getting constant blue and white smoke coming out with a poping sound that is in time with the puffing of smoke every 20 seconds. there is no signs of fuel in the oil. kind of at a loss. i've been getting mixed info about the problem and the 5 shops i called to ask about repairing it don't want to touch it. I wish i never bought this truck it's very depressing
