If you knew anything about northern AB and BC you would understand. Hell, I'll get you a job out of Ft. St. John pulling a tridem dump trailer and home every night that starts at $37.00 an hour.

There is a shortage of GOOD drivers in this area. It seems that some would prefer to stay and ON and just complain instead.:biggrin_25511:

As a driver in these areas are you able to live in the truck instead of paying rent on a property? Would it be reasonable to assume that shower/laundry facilities would be available? It appears that the better wages are negated by the cost of living. I obviously have no experience with these areas of operation but am curious to know if its feasible. Oh and by the way i would pull a tridem dump by a rope tied to my belt let alone a tractor for 37 bucks an hour !

I live in the truck most of the time during the week. Shower at truckstops and then usually hotel it on weekends or days off. Im not usually in the middle of nowhere for long periods of time though.

hi drivers, Do the companies use owner operators? if so do you have any info on that? I spent some time OTR and now I'm hauling super b tanks in manitoba at the moment, saving to go o/o and looking for the right opportunity to utilise my hard earned cash. I have enough saved to buy a tractor now and just giving it enough time to get the first few months operating costs saved while im looking out for the opportunity i think is worth making the commitment to. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Every meal? Pfttt I'm lucky if I get to eat once a day it seems. I keep some bread and peanut butter and other spreads in the truck so I can make myself some food. Drink a lot of water too. Hitting the gym on days off helps too.

The oil patch is decent as far as driver pay is concerned but the rest is still 10 years behind everywhere else except now as an added bonus we have a housing shortage.

If you can find a camp job in the patch i'd say come on over other than that you may as well stay home and be broke there.

Right on the money. 35 to 45 per hour in Edson, Drayton, Hinton, Whitecourt, grande prairie ect. Lots and lots of vacant seats. If you can't find them your not trying.
