There's got to be more to the story than that. I've done worse while at Werner and they didn't fire me.

I personally think part of the reason for these terminations is drivers not admitting responsibility for their actions. Blame it on the weather. Blame it on being overweight. Blame it on this, that, or the other. If you admit guilt to your actions, a company won't fire you unless you do something totally stupid like drive under a low bridge.

When they brought me in to fire me (via a phone call from the dispatch sup in Omaha) they initially accused me of being late with three loads. But I was able to prove that one of them was not my fault because Hwy 93 was closed over the Hoover Dam when I was supposed to cross it (as per the qualcomm directions) on 09/12/2001, the day after the terrorist attacks. I had to reroute myself through Laughlin and was late by two hours. I explained it to my dispatcher who was understanding, but Werner let him go a month later, and it was left as a late load on my record.

That caught the supervisor off guard, but he had already started the termination paperwork the day prior to me going into the terminal. The TM didn't think I deserved to be fired either. I don't know when you drove for Werner, but at that time it was enough to get me canned. It's the only time I've ever been fired:biggrin_2552:

If you know you are going to be late for whatever reason, send a QualComm msg stating why and your ETA... the planners can go by this and possibly make an appt change if the load being late is not your fault.

cc194217, Yes I sent a qualcomm message. They rerouted me through Laughlin. Why they left a late load on my record...I don't know. My dispatcher was let go so I couldn't ask him.

Actually........you recall a driver SAYING that is why he was terminated. 99% of the time we never get "The rest of the story", as good ol' Paul Harvey used to say. Just look at the OP's post, "but I was wrongly terminated". Maybe so, but, did not elaborate on his "wrongful termination". A good analogy would be that, according to the prisoners that are locked up, 90% of them are innocent. Are there innocent people in prison? Absolutely there are. Is it 90%.......nope
