I Have 65,000 for a otr Truck

check out www dot lonemountaintruck dot com. they seem to have some good trucks for about 65,000$ some even have 400,000 miles to 500,000 miles.

 

if you dont mind buying something a little older i would find an 03 or older detroit or cat pre emission motor. cat you have to make sure it is a 6nz motor and not an MBN,motor, they made both in 03. those three digits are the first three numbers of the engine serial number. 6nz cat is about as good as it gets. nothing like that twin turbo pos you have now. the pre emission 12.7 detroit is no powerhouse but it is a fuel squeezer and its a good motor. you can get it up to 500hp but its 1650ft lbs torque motor vs 1850 on the cat. but your running mostly flat land and not too heavy. the troit would be my choice.

cummins has just never done it for me. always had alot of maintenance on the ones i had but if you must then the pre emission red top n14 is about as good as cummins gets

if your dead set on newer then i would say the detroit. there is no cats any more. i hear lots bad about the pacar mx, and you know my views on cummins. but it would be dettoit then cummins but personally all these emission motors run like garbage and are expensive to fix and run

Take your time and look around I did when I went looking for a good light weight pre emission truck, I found an owner operator that was getting out of the business. It was a 2001 KW T800 that was well maintained with new tires, new batteries, Cummins ISX had 500k on a overhaul, new reman transmission less then a year old, rearend rebuilt just over a year, a lot of little stuff that had been done and the truck was clean, tight and well taken care of for a ex-fleet truck. I gave $19,500 and he had a stack of maintenance records all the way back when it was brand new. This truck is tighter then my 2007 Pete 379 that I bought new. I wouldn't be afraid to run this truck anywhere.

You can find a good used truck for less then $30k and take the rest of your money to run your business.

 

You shuld be able to locate a nice older used truck for about $20k with some recent work done. It will just take some time and do some good looking. Don't be in a hurry and deff do not spend the $65,000 on a truck!!!!

I would suggest a 99-03 truck with a 12.7 S-60 Detriot as they are very reliable (if they are taken care of properly) and easy to fix yourself and also parts are usually easy to find and much cheaper than most others (TA carries alomst anything for a S-60) As far as brand, you can get a IH 9400i, a Columbia, Century or FLD and do well with fuel mileage. I also know fo some guys running 99-02 379's getting into the mid 6's with a S60 motor.
As siad, the 6NZ CAT is a great motor too, just a little more costly for repairs, but does hold up very well, and if it has a recent rebuild and you take care of it properly too, you should be able to get another million miles out of it.

It will all come down to finding the one truck with good maintance records, not abused, nice clean interior and the price for it.

 

Agree with others, 65k is a nice maintenance stash and a good truck all in one.
