I bought the TND 510 (SN#510-004206-EL-10W52) last winter. It worked great for 3 months and then it started to occassionally freeze up. Sometimes the screen would go blank/white too. I couldn't turn it off; I'd have to use the RESET button on the back. After doing that it wouldn't turn back on until I'd let it sit (unplugged) for 4-5 hours.

This started to get slightly more common.. like once every couple weeks. But I realized if I kept it powered on.. and didn't get the LOW BATTERY WARNING nessage .. I could avoid this issue.

Moving on... things got worse with a (I think) unrelated issue.

More recently, the little power light would stay on when it was plugged in but powered off, but if I turned the unit on, the red light would sometimes go out or flicker. I'd wiggle the connection at the unit and sometimes that seemed to help... but eventually it got worse, and playing with the connector didn't help at all. It got so bad the unit wouldn't stay on for more than an hour. And I noticed it wasn't charging at all.

I decided to try the cable that came with the unit that is meant for communications with the PC. Its the USB-A to 5-Pin Mini-B cable. I took that and plugged it into a USB-to-AC Adapter and plugged that into my inverter. The unit now runs and charges fine. So.. obviously its that 12 volt car adapter that is the problem.

Anyway, so if you're having power issues and want a work around while on the road, you can buy both those items (USB-A to 5-Pin Mini-B cable and the USB-AC adapter; or you could use a USB-12volt Cig adapter too of course!) at most truck stops.. they're about $10-$12 each.
